Re: Model T head, how can I tell if a T head has been milled?
I noticed the same thing Joe Bell did - every unmolested head I've seen has a number stamped on the mating surface, the ones that have the number missing also have telltale swirls or lines from where it was shaved. I will say this is not all inclusive, but so far it seems to hold true. You can alway...

Re: Ford tire pump: Check valve?
It's a round ball in the base of the pump just below the hose that seats there, and is "trapped" by staking into it's "cage". The schrader valve wouldn't work as a check valve as you have the hose involved, as well as the schrader valve being held open by the nozzle, without the check valve you don'...

That would be one uncomfortable beast to ride. Looks like it's a VW trike - nothing inherantly unsafe in those - and there's enough weight on the front of it to keep it stable.

Some new car manufacturers are recommending fir cars with high performance engines 0w20 grade oil -image the low viscosity is to lube quickly in any temperature and no doubt it thickens quickly. It's also because thinner oil uses less fuel. My '11 Subaru uses 0W20 full synthetic, and is a "Partial ...

Frank, it's sounding like from your research (THANK YOU for that, BTW!) we should be steering more towards a motorcycle oil in our vehicles rather than an automotive oil? We recently discussed this, maybe here somewhere, Ford originally put the equivalent of 10W in his cars when they shipped... so 10W40 would probably be just fine. Even if it's not a radial crack, it's evidence of crystalized metal structure in the crank. Even if it doesn't go now, nothing is saying that you won't develop a radial crack in that crystallized metal structure. How much is your time, patience, and engine worth? If not much, then run it, and when i...

As you crank over the motor, every time a piston comes up on compression (pulling the crank gets harder) one of the coils will buzz. Then when you come up on compression for the next cylinder (1/2 turn, or 180º) the next coil will buzz. Do this for 2 complete turns of the crank, each time it comeson...

However if the magneto is not working, you won't be able to use a magneto horn anyway. They were made for the older cars which did not have a battery. Don't know exactly what year they came out... The mag horn came out mid-1915 - before that they were bulb horns of various types, and in 1919 if you...

That serial number - 14000 or 16000 - would make your car an early 1910, which is superduper cool beans... but not a '13. My dad's early '12 (march-ish) was 101xxx... 707xx would be October '11 (which would also be considered an early '12)...
