Morning all - The dif removal was about 2 hrs, and like you said- kind of a fun challenge. The no. 4 measured 1.590 in - Standard is 1.560 so about 30 thou out- The U joint was also pretty sloppy. Ditch the stupid inline fuel filter. Not necessary. Yes, adding Scotts full-flow needle valve does help especially in a heavier car but yours is only a "light weight" '14! Maybe the screen in the "potato" is compromised? Maybe your fuel line is getting gunked up from winter layovers from fuel turnin...

I can't help you with "tread" thickness, but I can tell you they wear faster due to the smooth tread. The gaps in regular tread act like hinges, allowing the tread blocks to roll along the road surface, while smooth tires scrunch up and pull, causing the surface to scrub against the road. I have on order 4 30X3 1/2 UNIVERSAL ALL WHITE TIRE RIBBED $364 each for Buffalo wheels. Corker stated no guarantee, but if enough folks order, they will hopefully be able to have them made. And last year I paid $264 with free shipping! I will need both the 3 as well as the 3.5 when the time comes.

Does anyone have any idea of how thick the "tread" is on the smooth grey tires? I know it's a truly dumb question as it would require dissecting an otherwise good tire but I'm inferring I guess at least how long they lasted til the cords start to show through!

My thought is the kingpins should not be tight at all. The thread in the axle allows the bolts to be drawn down enough to eliminate up and down play between the eyes of the axle. That adjustment should not cause drag. Similarly the bolts in the bushes should not drag either. A T steering mechanism ...

Well - I pulled the rear axle assembly. Really not half as bad as I thought it would be - (maybe 2-3 hrs) The result is that the 4th main and universal joint are clearly worn out. A lot of play and rattle. Since I've come this far- and the engine and trans has already been gone through 100% I guess...

Yeh now that you mention it... the T does turn tighter! But that Bird sure can fly! Got picked up for speeding on a country road very first day that I had the car. Doing 94 mph and climbing when the Statie chick came around a gentle bend a mile away and nailed me. I talked my way out of it!! :lol: ...

I almost hate to admit it but that Rustoleum Appliance epoxy is some dang good stuff!
Every other year I even put my F150 on the lift, clean the frame down with a damp rag of lacquer thinner and re-coat with that. For an 8 y.o. truck that frame still looks like new. Salt resistance! :lol:
