Re: OT - Adventures of Kalamity Dick - Fact or Fiction?

It was at the height of interest in advanced mumbling that KD devised the following formula for the improved flackerpoth: Mnuflb (bnxt) = 2(thrppt X lmnft) He made it look easy, but years later, the secret was lost when mumbling had become passe. Of minor interest, the formula translates to "Get you...

Hey there Rich B ! Yeah, no sissified enclosed stall trailer for THAT horse! So true Wayne ! That's how we hauled 'em, though I'm pretty sure the T wouldn't have gone even as fast pulling the trailer as that pony could lope ! A chronology of the development of the horse trailer could be an in...

Re: Selfcharging magnets

Anecdotal evidence from the ancient past: When I cobbled together my first Model T at the age of 14 (I was 14, the T was 43 :D ) there was no one to tell me magnets could lose their strength. Armed with the official Ford Model T shop manual, I had made sure the field coil was "OK". When it ran, (sta...

A hard working T

Not a lot of modern-day owners fully realize what the stock model T Ford is actually capable of. Many seem more concerned with correcting perceived "inadequacies" (real or imagined) through modifications than in beholding its considerable strengths. This sheepherder seems content to work with his tw...

Rich, I'm amused by the attention you get. Part of the fun is folks' comments and reactions. I hardly ever take Lizzie to town. On county roads we're pretty much invisible. I think it's because most folks don't know what they're looking at; they probably take it for a 4-wheeler or razer. (?!?) Lizzi...

Only on special order and it's very expensive. Recommend you opt for the pigeon spots. They're on sale this week !

Besides load distribution, height of the hitch point is a factor. Tongue pointing downward causes oscillation.

Sebastian informs me that's old "Lemon-belly" Hermandollar standing by the diner on Forty-rod Road. An interesting character, he worked slaking chalk from the talings at the punctuation adit of the Alphabet Mine. He would stand around the diner "pan-handling" for dimes, annoying the customers, but h...

Re: OT - Adventures of Kalamity Dick - Fact or Fiction?

"3M Corporation" meant something entirely different in the Tri-burgs in the early days. Martin Moldenhuth capitalized on his status as a Master Mumbler, establishing mumbling academies in the tri-burg towns. "3M" stood for "Master Mumbler Moldenhuth". Students paid high tuition fees to learn the sec...

Geez, Gene, how do you know what his last name is ? And - what you're implying about shepherds and tucking pantlegs into knee-boots is a stereotype based on a vicious calumny. Sometimes we don't. 😉

Ammonia ? Yup. I'm quite sure it is effective in dissolving tarnish. Brasso (back when it worked) smelled strongly of ammonia, so does Blue Magic, which I also find to be very good. I've noticed bird droppings (also containing ammonia) noticeably remove tarnish when washed off. There's a certain cha...

Re: OT - Adventures of Kalamity Dick - Fact or Fiction?

Curiously, Hobbelink chose not to have the link of chain removed from his nose. This resulted in a sort of mechanically induced speech impediment. Even more curious, when he would begin a non-stop soliloquy in the presence of a mule, the animal would invariably fall into a deep, hypnotic sleep. This...

That's a tough question. Of course we love our Ts "sum total", but some bits just seem to have a special appeal. I guess my favorite is a brass Holley G carb.

Prestwich "Hobbelink" Maddox was Cuthbert's nephew. To say the lad was a little "slow" is a great kindness. How he came by the sobriquet "Hobbelink" is perhaps illustrative: Cuthbert's cousin Radford prevailed upon him to take Hobbelink on as ranch help for a season in the hope that fresh air and ru...

Ironically, Minnie's flat tire was caused by a triangle that had fallen out of Wendell Padislav's tourabout as he was carting off the last bushel of triangles after the commissioners had banned them. Geoffrey, maybe this is helpful: setting the mixture needle at 1-1/2 to 2 turns open initially, I find the "sweet spot" with the engine thoroughly warmed up by enriching the mixture until she "stumbles" a bit, then leaning up the mix until power diminishes, then back that off slightly. On the level ...
