Re: 1919-1927 Completely Rebuilt Ford Model T Generators With 90 day warranty!
Thanks Hank! Starters are tricky! Lots of things can bite you, especially when doing all the bushings. Here’s all my tooling I’ve come up with. I’m not fortunate like Steve Tomaso to have the complete Stevens starter & Generator rebuild kit. Trial and error and lots of reading/studying landed me her...

6v to 12v model T starter conversion
I'm splitting this topic as it generated lots of PMs and emails. Seems that this topic is of much interest in general. I am curious about your " And I can also do 12v conversations." Re: 1919-1927 Completely Rebuilt Ford Model T Generators With 90 day warranty!
I do! I now have all the tooling to do both now. And I can also do 12v conversations. I also replace the worn out Babbitt bearing in the starter snout with a bronze bushing on the starters and use the same meticulous rebuild method on the starters as I use on the generators. There's just a lot more ...

So, about 25 years ago I bought a Harbor Freight pan & brake for sheet metal work fabricating my Porsche race cars. What an absolute total piece of junk. The cast iron broke at the base and all my attempts to repair it were basically futile. But it served a purpose and I cursed it every single time ...

I tried one of these strobe light tachometers once and was disappointed at the performance. Who is the developer of the app you are using? I could not find one with a screen like yours. I assume it is for I-Phone only with no Android version. They are by no means perfect, that's for sure. The one I...

You might have one or more problems going on with your starter. Jeff, If it really is that steep, then you are still probably not getting the oil to the front that you think you are, and even if you were, it's not staying where you need it for long enough. The dreaded system update I've been putting off has now been completed. Let me know if you see anything strange happening. Hopefully this will strengthen the weedout process of the spammers.

Re: What do you use to heat your (freezing) shop for your T?
This has become a hot topic for sure. Such great info! There are as many approaches to heating a shop as there are folks in this hobby. The O2 depletion theory makes sense. I'm sure that's what I experienced with my "indoor" propane construction heater, and for the last time. I have a new radiant he...

I have a smaller garage only 600 square feet, I have 4” of ridgid styrofoam under my concrete Floor with water lines ran 12”on center, poured in the concrete. Their is an on demand boiler running a glycol/water mix through the lines. It’s an amazing way to heat the garage, the concrete holds the he...

I don’t think this is off topic as without toil, upgrades and maintenance during winter months, our most prized possession wouldn’t be ready to tour all year... however. I Almost passed out today in my shop and I think my heater was the cause. Granted, I live in CA and not on the east coast so go ah...

Jeff, have you ever taken on a job, doing it just "half-axxed" ? Not unless there is a good reason! I’m taking my time on this machine both in refurbing it as well as learning how to use it. I installed the new belt and rebuilt the entire apron over the weekend, and wow what a difference! Tubalcain's video on this was a big help. It now has a working powered cross feed and the feed change lever is nice and smooth. And the belt doesn't slip. I also found a guy on eBay who has a boatload ...

That was an extrordinary purchase for the price. The large-dial cross-feed is worth $200 as parts alone. You're missing the compound for it, but are readily available on ebay, as is virtually every replacement part for that lathe That looks like a Model A which is a nice version of that size, with ...

Well... not so new, but new to me. 1943 South Bend 9" bench lathe. I bought it for $400. That is exactly the car I want next. I keep offering Robert Weitzel a nice warm garage to store his (indefinitely) but for some reason, he won't take me up on the offer. If you were closer, I'd offer to "store" your car as well. The gas level might vary from day to day, but the car would always be s...
