Mitch It’s rather a good idea to keep the coolant up high. Any excess will just spill out the overflow anyway. The thermo syphon needs the upper outlet covered at all times with coolant, otherwise the flow will stop, and stay in the cylinder head and overheat the motor. As with any syphon, let the h...

Believe two reasons for the metal pipe on the lower inlet. The savings of rubber tubing is reason number one of course, rubber in those days wasn't cheap. The other reason is the long term effect of a longer length of rubber tubing over time. Age and heat, and weight of the water flowing up that ru...

The single slot screw on the stanchion is correct factory fitting. The curtain hook has round hole, so machine screw was used. Plus if you have tried to install a nut there , on a captive carriage bolt, you will soon know why a slotted screw was used from the outside.

The stainless steel washers on the alum heads,(to prevent galling of the cylinder head by tightening the head bolts), have to be very thin, so don't use a thick one for sure. And the bolt holes in the block can vary in depth and be sure to clean to the bottom of the hole, compressed air and a pick t...

Why buy a modern wrench? Your Ford tool kit came with the proper tool, works fine. The 1917 Band Nut and Pack Nut Wrench. The ends of the jaws of this wrench are factory formed splayed or slightly apart, so applying the wrench also at an angle will allow the wrench jaws to easily pull up that pack ...

IMO, add the rim nut and add a dust cover.
The rim nut will maintain the metal stem straight, esp. if the tube gets under-inflated, as the stem could shift in the larger rim hole and could tear loose from the tube.

Also, regarding fan belt tension, many times too much tension is used and that can cause undue wear on the bushings. Same with water pump, if too much belt tension. The tabs on the gear cluster can be carefully bent back, after annealing the tabs. You only need to open them just enough to remove and install the rods.
