WTB: Rear cross member bracket
I know this is a long shot, but I'll try anyway. I'm looking for one of the little brackets that spans over the opening of the rear cross member and is also rivited into the side rail. I need one for the passenger side for a '23 frame. Mine was broken. I had it welded back together, but I would real...

I frequently hand crank my cars even though I've never had one that doesn't have a starter. There are times where I have to spin the engine over with the crank, but it makes me a little anxious. A friend of mine has a 24 touring car. The car has the correct 30 x 3 1/2 wheels. Both back wheels on the car have loose spokes and need to be rebuilt and the front wheels are not far behind. Re: 1909 - 1910 Drive Shaft questions.
The 1909-10 Ts did not have a roller bearing for the pinion end of the drive shaft. There was simply a large babbit bearing that supported the drive shaft and had a flange to take the end thrust.

I personally would install an accessory wishbone brace instead of using a later wishbone with the earlier perches. That drag link is shot. The original for caps were just like the one on the wishbone socket, but smaller. No grease cup or spring inside. Maybe you could braze the insert to the pan just enough to get the sight glass out. I would drain all of the oil out first though otherwise it may catch on fire inside the engine.

That gap between the side of the arm and the frame is how it's supposed to be. Like has already been said, there is a hard wood block that goes in there that supports the engine. Another question. When you drive on a level road, does the car pull to one side? If it does, which way? Mario, if you have not already done so, now is an excellent time to check and recharge your magnets. They are pretty much always weak and sometimes you'll find one or two that are cracked. Also, the spacer spools and brass screws should be replaced as they crystallize with age and often break. Stephen

No lube at all in new day timers. If any oil gets in there your engine will not be happy.

Wood works great on low and reverse but personally I would rather have kevlar or cotton on the brake band. I have had two wooden brake bands suddenly stop working when descending a long hill. I use the brakes as little as possible and always pump the pedal to keep oil on the linings and yet I lost t...

I don't understand why they would modify the brake shoes to make up for worn out cams. If the cam is worn, then it should be replaced. All this does is cause issues when assembling the brakes with new parts.

Re: Model t handbrake
I would pull the hand brake back and take a look at the little levers on the brake backing plates that the rods attach to. With the brake fully engaged, the little levers should be vertical or maybe a little leaning towards the rear of the car. If they are leaning towards the front of the car, that'...

When buying rear ends, I have never figured out how to tell a good one from a bad one. Sometimes the nasty, dirty, rust pitted rear axle housing rear ends, will have almost perfect insides. Re: Do the rear end, torque tube and radius rods need to be assembled vertically?
After bolting the axle housings together, I lay the assembly down on two jack stands and bolt on the radius rods and then the drive shaft assembly. It's much easier this way than doing it with the rear axle vertical. Just make sure you are holding the flange that holds the drive shaft in the transmi...

Yes, I have the drip rail and it's in nice condition. I don't think this car has ever been restored. Just the top and upholstery was replaced and the body was painted. Mechanically the car was badly worn out, but I'm making quick progress on it.

Btw, filing the chamfers won't make the u joint fit too loose. The u joint drives the shaft through the flats not the chamfers.

Re: U Joint Too Tight?
It's probably getting stuck on the chamfers. A few light passes with a file will probably get it to slip on. Before you assemble the u joint to the drive shaft, make sure the square end slides freely in and out of the transmission output shaft. I've seen a couple new u joints that were too big on th...

I bought a 23 runabout in July last year and one of the issues the body has is the firewall needs to be replaced. Put a couple of bolts back in before the flywheel falls off. The flywheel and transmission assembly weighs about 85 pounds. You don't want that to land on your foot not to mention the damage it'll cause.

Re: 400 turbo or Jack rabbit clutches
If the plates are flat, the brake drum lugs are not badly chewed up and you have things adjusted correctly the stock clutch will not cause creeping. Besides if the car creeps before it warms up either your hand brake is not set or it won't hold. The car shouldn't move regardless how much drag is in ...

Re: 400 turbo or Jack rabbit clutches
There really is no difference between the turbo 400 and Jack rabbit clutches aside from which center hub it uses. The turbo 400 uses a special hub with small notches all the way around for the lined plates and the jack rabbit discs have been modified to work with the stock Ford hub. Aside from that ...

It is extremely unlikely that you will have to replace this part unless your spring is broken. As long as the pin is not damaged and the spring is not broken, you don't have to worry about it.

Re: Where does this starter peice go
It goes in a very small hole on the inside of the weight on the bendix drive gear. The pin end of the pin presses against the major diameter of the bendix threads to prevent the gear from creeping towards the flywheel when the engine is running.
