Wow- nice job! One suggestion - you might want to move the torque arm connection point from the end of the starter shaft like it is in your picture closer to the support bearing on the starter snout. It would be a shame to bend a starter shaft, and they bend pretty easily.

How about not using a shift bracket that mounts on the back of the hogs head, but back farther just in front of the seat pan? Outside the body next to the driver's left arm might be the best place. Even having the brake lever inside takes up enough room even with the lever massaged to get it close to the inside of the body. On using A tappets: They are too large to be used in the T tappet bosses. You would have to grind the shanks down in order to make them useable in a T block. Using T or A tappets will not have any effect on cam duration- duration is totally controlled by the cam profile and nothing else.

Re: Rocky mountain brake lining

Best modern woven lining is Green Gripper. If you can get old stock woven lining, that would be good as well. Be aware of modern woven lining as it is pretty hard and not work as well as you might prefer.

Re: Clutching at clutches ?

What John said above is true, but only if the last disc to be installed is a large disc. The last disc in needs to rotate with the brake drum/ driven plate assembly. It is a common mistake to over look this detail if you don't fully understand how the clutch pack should be installed. All those drive...

Re: Lock N Stitch

The biggest concern when you start to pin a water jacket crack is finding out the metal around the crack is not thick enough to hold the pins. There has to be sufficient thickness for there to be enough threads to keep the pin in place. As far as doing it yourself- no reason not to try. Its tedious ...

Re: Re-built model T transmission - For Sale

FYI, when Marie's father brought the parts to me for rebuilding, the triple gear pins were already installed as was the ring gear using the magnet spools and bolts you see. I added my oil slingers to ensure adequate oil circulation. The retainer plate could be added if desired. Additionally, every r...

Re: What have you done to your Model T in September?

Richard- the problem with those horn brackets is they are put together with soft solder. The only way to make them stay together- both on the horn tube and the body side bracket is to desolder them and then put them back together with silver solder.

There is an extension piece that routs the exhaust down from the exhaust manifold and around the water connection casting. They are pretty rare.

Re: Clutching at clutches ?

Just a comment on blasting clutch discs- its very easy to warp clutch discs if they get blasted with coarse media or high pressure. Contrary to the beliefs of some folks, clutch discs need to be dead flat in order to function properly. Some may disagree with that statement, and that's ok as well.......

Yes, these use a non-Ford front cylinder cover. Contact Kevin Pharis as he was reproducing this cover several years ago. Many early models of magnetos did not have the advance feature- Bosch DU4 mags were made both with and without the advance. The coupling for the mag side is pretty much a mirror i...

For the stuck valve- put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas or even just some engine oil. That may be enough to free up the stuck valve, or pull the plugs and squirt some diesel fuel over the valve area in the cylinder. Its less work than removing the valve side door as a beginning. If your water ou...

Re: Cylinder Head Flatness

Did you torque it from the center out in a pattern or just randomly tightened the bolts? Not retorquing it initially may have added to the problem.
T head gaskets are pretty forgiving in most cases, but they do need to be retorqued.

Re: Zinc Plating - experience anyone?

Zinc plating is not the same as galvanizing. Galvanizing is the process of dipping parts into a vat of molten zinc. Do not confuse this with electroplating zinc. I'm with Jerry- leave plating to a [plater. Zinc for sure- it's an inexpensive process so just pay for it. Dealing with the hazmat issues ...

Clear zinc (not galvanize) would clean up old covers and look pretty close to cad plating. Just an idea to consider. Note sure why you think Cad has a yellow tint??

The flange breaking off of hubs is 99% of the time due to the outer plate not being a tight fit on the hub and the bolts not being tight. These two conditions allows the hub flange to flex while cornering, fatigue and ultimately fail. (Repeated Left and right turns create a fully reversed bending mo...

Re: safety hubs

It's a really bad idea to use the 5 Ford wire wheel studs to attach a safety hub to the wheel hub/brake drum assembly. Same goes for using the 6 wheel bolts on a wood wheel to mount the safety hub flange. A safety hub flange needs to be bolted to the wheel hub with its own set of grade 8 bolts. This...
