Re: Unusual rear hub failure

Scott- the Ford rear hubs are steel, not CI. The front hubs are malleable iron. This is a classic fatigue failure that is due to repeated bending cycles. Ford must have recognized this failure mode was possible given the generous radius in the corner of the flange which prevents a stress riser that ...

Re: Unusual rear hub failure

Just to add to Ed's explianation above. If you think about the forces on the flange, the outer wheel plate, when securely bolted to the face of the wood spokes, effectively carries a radial load against the wheel hub, preventing the hub flange from reversed bending in a turn. If the outer plate can ...

Wonder how it cooled with the hot water from the front engine running into the 2nd engine and then to the radiator?

Re: Bosch magneto mount possible recasting

Mark- Kevin has reproduced the early timing cover that was supplied with the 3 gear Bosch mag drive- scroll up a few postings, he posted a picture of his new covers. Many folks don't realize the three gear mag drive required a special non- Ford front timing cover until they try to mount one on an en...

Re: Speedster fuel line: Fuel Bulb threads for the outlet are 1/2-18: What is that used for in modern times ?

You can always cut the 1/2-18 spud off of the outlet and tap the hole for a pipe thread and then use a pipe thread to tube flare adapter.

Re: Question about rods

They all need to weigh the same. Best to check big end and total weight to see how much variation you have. How did it run? Probably a lot of vibration at speed, unless by some miracle they all weigh out the same. Was there any evidence of any balancing on any of the engine parts? Could be its just ...

Re: Bosch magneto mount possible recasting

Looks like the points might be under the rear cover and on the input shaft? How would that work with the points turning crank speed? A four lobe cam would need to run cam speed. Just wondering. There was a similar unit available about 25 years ago for replacing magnetos with battery ignition. This u...

Re: Watts hub removal issue

Weld a small strap across the broken out section so you can use your hub puller. Then heat up the hub with a torch and retry pulling it off.

Re: Cumbustion volume of head gasket

Harry-its the volume of a head gasket, which is not a cylinder, as you have to include the valve area as well. Art- its been several years, but I recall that my volume was an actual measured volume using a flat plate and a pipette.

Re: Valve timing

After reading all the above, there are a few facts that need to be set straight for everyone's benefit. The KRW valve setting gage and the setting of valve opening events by piston travel (distance of the top of the piston to the deck) only works for an engine with 1) Stock compression height piston...

Re: Run engine stand that rotates- want to see what you have before I build mine

One suggestion on your chain- one wrap of the chain will limit your rotation to less than 360 degrees. You might consider two wraps of chain that will allow you to go all the way around with no restrictions.

Re: What is this?

The grey gismo is the Feed mechanism for an Aamco Line boring bar. Given the other items in that box, you might have the other parts that go to it as well. Post more pics of your treasures.

The ribbed tool laying under the gear rack of the feed box is a KRW main bearing babbitt peening tool.
