Re: Getting Rattles Back On The Road
Back at it today. First I got the spare tire carrier mounted. I had to clean up the threads and then mount the Y. All I need to do now is walk by it and him my knee. I know that's going to happen soon. IMG_6314.jpeg IMG_6313.jpeg I know the nuts are not correct. I'm going to order the correct ...

Now rattles is starting to look like a Model T with the correct tires. IMG_6307.jpeg When i put them on I noticed a gap where the lugs are. This gap was there before and you can see that the rim is up against the wheel all the way. IMG_6306.jpeg This is how I used the rim spreader to put the tire on...

Re: I broke a split rim latch. What now coach?
Well I was able to fix it! I used a barrage blot cut to size then a washer on the other side. I had a metal bucking board and a ball peen hammer. The latch came out a little loose but when I put the rim together it tightened up so I could use a punch and hammer to slide it in place. IMG_6305.jpeg IM...

The shim is used so that the wheel doesn't slide too far down the axel. Usually the shim is a bit more towards the threads. Looks like that shim has been pushed down the axel when the wheel was tightened. I still have to get a lot more practice driving. I've been working on new tires.

Wayne, i like your idea of just leaving it alone. I never thought of the pressure in the tire holding it together. If I mount it on the wheel that would hold it together even more so.

Re: I broke a split rim latch. What now coach?
Mark I was using the correct spreader and was able to do 4 tires with it. This would be a spare. The spreader was not on the tire at the time. The tire was so old (It was put on in 1974) that it was as hard a plastic. So I was cutting it off with a hacksaw. While I was doing this the side of the spl...

I broke a split rim latch. What now coach?
So I was pulling the tire off with my hands and some tire irons. and this happened.
Is there any repair for this? Yes I was using a rim splitter but that was off the rim when it happened. I think the edge of the split must have hit it.

I'm trying to attach the spare tire carrier to the goose neck on my 26 Touring. The three studs look like 1/2 x20 fine threads. Is this correct? I've read that the original ones were a thin nut. Fact or fiction.

Drove Scarlotte O'Hair to Fredericksburg VA Cars & Coffee. 150 miles round trip between Richmond & Fredericksburg using Historic Route 1. It is still cool to travel a road that I have been on 100's of times in a modern vehicle at the slower speed of a T. Wife out of town so left predawn top down, L...

Grease Calling all Chemical engeneers
So my brother said that old grease (from the 60's and 70's) mixed with modern grease can have a chemical reaction that can cause the grease to become corrosive and damage the wheel bearings. I know all the old should be cleaned out anyway but if that's true and you don't get it all out.........Any t...

Repacked the front bearings and have some questions.
So the first thing I noticed is that the hubcap was filled with grease. Not sure this is necessary. So my first question is: Do you have to have all the grease in the hubcap and all over the nut? IMG_5959.jpeg My second question is. How tight do you make the bearing and the nut? I'm used to my Mopar...

I would check the timing. Every time the pin that turns the crank shaft goes just past the 3:00 position (like 3:15) a coil should spark.

Is a Foot Warmer dangerous?
So I was up at Carlisle for the Chrysler show and came upon a foot warmer. The outside seems to be covered with what looks like rug material. Then it occurred to me. Is this made out of asbestos? I see them for sale on here from time to time.

I picked this tool up a few years back and I'm not sure how to use it. I think it's for spreading open a tire. Does anyone have pictures of how it was used? Says Firestone on it.

The floor boards are from JP Auto Wood. I bet that someone drilled out holes to hold down the floor. I know the ones where the door is are for the door sills. I'm going to have to beat some metal or trim some wood to make the drivers side fit.
