A speedster is not a stock Model T, so anything goes. For it to be a Model T only thing required is a Model T block. A good operating distributor would work fine. If you have the piece which broke off it would be the easiest fix. Weld it back on and file out the hole. One thing about that corner is that if you have a Ruckstell shifter it would bolt onto that piece so you need to be sure it is strong.

Don't know exactly what year it is, but suspect it is somewhere between 1923 and 1926. The large hole is for a speedometer and the hole between it and the ammeter is for a dash light.

There should be a thin About 1/4 inch thick pad between the crossmember and the spring The spring should have a bolt with a square head which sits high enough to go through the pad and the frame. Some times LED bulbs will glow for a few seconds and gradually dim. Does it stay on all the time when the switch is off? If so, you must have a high resistance connection to the battery when the switch is off. Maybe something in the switch has graphite or some other conductive substance on it.

I suppose it would be useful for going up steep hills to get oil to the front of the engine. However, you would also need something to get the fuel to the front too. The 26-27 solved that problem by raising the gas tank, but still needed auxiliary oiler to get oil to the front.

Re: Just conversation. Why tube in lower radiator hose line?

Another possible reason. If the fan belt breaks, especially at high RPM it could cut the hose. I don't think the natural rubber hoses in those days were as strong as ours today.

Re: Slow starter

Do you know whether the car used a 12 volt battery when it was last in use? Starters can be rewound to use 12 volts. That would slow the starter if you are using 6 volts. Another thing to check would be the battery cable. It must be a heavier cable for 6 volts. You can get the correct cable from our...

Be sure the choke valve is fully closing with the choke pulled and completely opening when you let go of the choke rod. If it sticks or only moves part way, you will not get it to start or after you get it running it will be rich and run roughly.

Looks like it might work. At least it's worth a try and less likely to damage the manifold than it is to try to straighten it. If it seals the exhaust it will save you from having to ship a new one to your area.

Looks good to me. I was going to add, if the head is off, you can run a plumbing snake through the passages in both the head and block and be sure also the tiny steam vents at the front and rear corners are also clear. That looks like Steve in the pictures. Is it him?

Even if you go to an E timer, be sure to carry a spare old fashoned times. Electronic things do tend to go bad. So you need to keep something just in case. As to running the coils on 6 volts. I once ran one of my T's on 6 volt battery, and it ran, however, it was one of the slowest cars on a tour. F...

I would find out which cylinder had the sticking valve and then pull out the spark plug. The valves are right under the spark plug so about 8 inches or more of wood dowel and turn the crank to the location where the valve should be closed. Then tap on it with the dowel and a very light hammer. Just ...

I agree with Jeff Humble What I use instead of the felt packing is a piece of neoprene hose just big enough to fit inside the cap and slip over the pipe. Works great and can used over again if you need to remove the carburetor for some reason.

Re: Can we bypass aux. water pump?

The pump has an impeller inside which would restrict the flow of coolant. He needs the original type input to the block and the two hoses with the pipe between them. Then remove the pump and install the original equipment. Then he can try the car without the pump. If it cools OK, just leave it off. ...

I would suggest taking it to a good radiator shop. Maybe someone in your local club knows which one would do the best. The top tank would need to be removed so it could be worked from the inside. I don't know whether or not it could ever be made as straight as original.

You need a cutout at the top of the generator connected to the output. The screw in the front of the generator gets a wire from the ammeter so that The cutout is a one way switch originally it had a relay which would connect it to the ammeter to show charge. The newer ones have a diode which allows ...

I will agree with most of what has already been posted. Most important things to consider, especially with the earliest Brass T's is the condition of the body sheet metal and the wood. The early 1909's had wood body panels too. They can get rot, termites, powder post beetles, and carpenter ants. Loo...

When you say "Backfire" do you mean it is spitting through the carburetor or firing through the exhaust system? First thing I would do would be to do a compression check on the engine. That will indicate whether your rings and valves are sealing correctly. They should be the same or nearly the same ...

A good screen and clean sediment bulb under the gas tank is all you need for a filter. Water or sediment go to the bottom of the bulb while gas is filtered through the screen. A good free flowing fuel line with both ends higher than the center so any vapors will rise either to the tank or the carbur...
