Because Brass
In the 10+ years I have been refurbishing HCCT meters I have accumulated a lot of parts. One version of the Allen HCCT has a small Ammeter and Voltmeter. They are normally all steel (see last photo). In my box of donor meters were some with brass rings. So I decided to assemble a set of brass meter...

As you can see they were "laminated" from nine layers of very thin plywood.

Re: Laminated Top Bows Broke Again.
Frank (TRDxb2), For the most part I agree with you about stress on the bows. When the top is up and in position, the bows are in axial compression with the sockets. It is unlikely this is when the bows broke. I only found broken bows after I put the top down. Putting the top down by myself is awkwar...

Re: Laminated Top Bows Broke Again.
I think that the transition from the rectangular cross section of the bow to the oval cross section of the socket creates a natural fracture line. When I did mine, I stair-stepped the the transition rather then taper the bow to the socket. In hindsight, that may have been another contributing factor...

Re: Laminated Top Bows Broke Again.
I now have a much better understanding of why my bows failed. The weak point (other than the design of the bows themselves) is the interface between bow and the socket. I believe the repair is solid and will last. The remaining bows will be vulnerable to the same failure. I will be more vigilant whe...

Laminated Top Bows Broke Again.
When I restored my '16 Touring in 2008 I installed a new top, new sockets and new laminated top bows. In about 2012 one side of the rear bow broke right at the socket. At that time I repaired it by inserting a 1/4" stainless steel rod between the bow and socket. The rod penetrated about 3" - 4" into...

The capacitors that are provided by the Model T suppliers are a custom made capacitor.
They do not cross to a commercial part.

Re: Anyone Ever Recharged the Magnets on a HCCT…
Every HCCT has a wire from the mag ring terminal to the HCCT.
Disconnct the mag ring wire from the HCCT.
This will isolate the mag ring from the rest of the HCCT.
Then recharge the magnets the same as you would in the car.

I used Por-15 on my floorboards.
It adhears really well and wears like iron.
It has a glossy finish.
Unless you park outside, with the top down, in the sun, full time,
there are no issues with the color becoming cloudy.
