Re: Carburetors for non stock engine

Ralph Ricks got me hooked on them.

About ten years ago I bought a bunch that were discovered in the original Ames speedster building in Louisville, Ky.

New old stock.

They are all happily powering speedsters now.

Not a lot of them around. I pretty much buy every one I can find.

George, most of those floats from ten years or so were being made in India and were some hard brass colored metal that would not hold solder. They leaked and didn't float very well to begin with. I don't know where they are coming from now and I haven't bought many since I don't fool with NHs but th...

Re: A change of fuel on my road to Damascus

Your tractor tank is also vented to atmosphere so air is entering and exiting that tank with every temperature cycle. I think the moisture in the air stays in the tank as when it warms up the gasoline evaporates and the ethanol stays in the tank. It doesn't take much water to keep an engine from sta...

Re: TT cab on a tractor

I sold that Model A at an auction in Havre about ten of so years ago. The guy that has all that stuff on eBay people think is so over priced stepped up at about $15000 to outbid the guy that was going to strip it down to get the 31 sport coupe body. It is, I think, still in his collection. He did so...

There are at least two C cabs, maybe more. He has a lot of stuff for sale, I think. I didn't really take much of a look at the listing. There is a lot of stuff like this still sitting around in Montana.

TT cab on a tractor

Out here in Montana where the winters are long and cold, the summers are short and hot and spring and fall are a combination of both not only on a day to day basis but an hour by hour basis a lot of the time, somebody years ago decided to make a cab for his tractor from a TT. Did a nice job on it. I...

If it is all complete and unmolested by somebody it should be worth that Canadian. That's about $1100 US, which is about what a nice core is worth. It also depends on the year, the early ones from 1909 with no choke in the inlet are not worth as much as the later ones with the choke. IMHO

Depends on quality, whether it's been rebuilt and who by, are all parts correct for the year, original or repro parts, junker drug to every swap meet in the country, etc. The correctly rebuilt ones from people who know what they are doing will bring close to double that and I've turned some down for...

You won't believe the difference. There is a reason Stromberg sold over three quarters of a million OF's in less than 4 years.

U and J definitely better for high speed and with a replaceable Venturi you can open them up even more.

Re: U & J Speedster Carb

They are different carbs. The U and J is more of a performance carb, will burn more gas, has more Zoom than an OF. OF is probably smoother, better economy and better for a stock engine.
Generally speaking, an OF is not big enough for a speedster engine, the U & J is very popular for speedsters.

The TT shifter is held on with 4 bolts, the car shifter is held on with 3.

There are more differences including size but that's the basic way to tell.

If you take a punch and tap the venturi where is shows through the hole it will probably collapse pretty easily. If not, it easily presses out the front opening. It is virtually a no-lathe-skills project to make a venturi out of Aluminum for them. The little screw just ahead of the open hole holds i...

Several accessory carbs used those. D and B, some Neverfail, others. They were also sold for a nickel apiece to fix one that fell off or wore out on Ford issue carbs.
