First of all John, the poster asked about whether a specific repair would work. I'm sure he knows he can replace the axle with a modern one. With regard to cutting a new keyway, I've often thought of doing that myself on a number of axles I've collected over the years. However I don't have the tooli...

There were a few touring bodies made for a Model S roadster. Cecil Church had one and there is a period photo of one displayed on a floor room in London. I assume they were Ford bodies. Re: Driveshaft question

Pretty much all driveshafts I've seen have been machined only at both ends and are consequently larger in between. Are you saying the one you have is significantly larger? I can't speak to that.

Re: Need to Recover From a Stupid Mistake

Helicoils are fine. But as with any thread insert, its imperative the hole be drilled and tapped straight. Not as easy as it sounds. I typiclly mount the piece on a mill table and guide the drill and tap with a chuck or fashion and attach a drill guide to the piece if the dimension or location doesn...

I really like the one with the sleeve to allow

Re: Early 6 rivet rear end question

Thank you. Part of the mystery solved. The nut is a 3/8 inch castle nut. I still wonder if the thread size is 24 tpi. I suspect it is because the other end of the stud is 24 tpi. Why would Ford have two different thread sizes on the same stud? Reason I ask is because I was informed by a knowledgeabl...

Early 6 rivet rear end question

I'm making studs for early 6 rivet rear end housings. These housings accept studs with a thread size of 3/8 x 24 tpi. I've been told the other end of the studs are threaded 3/8 x 16 and and are held with castle nuts of that size and wired together like later set ups. However, I thought I recall seei...

Re: Measuring piston clearance after rebore

Amen to avoid having others do work on your car. I'm convinced that shabby workmanship is the reason we do as much as we can ourselves. When I started in this hobby, the only tools I owned were carried in a tool pouch. Gradually I learned how to do most things needed to restore a car. I still farm o...

Re: Stromberg Hot Spot Manifold SOLD

Yes, Dusty I did buy one of Tim's chokes that mount on the steering wheel. I'll take a look at the pieces when I receive them. I just wonder with all those OFs out there, the hot spot items might be worth making. I have some machine skills and should be able to make the valve. Haven't done any casti...

Glen I am interested but your price is way high. I'd pay $2000 and will probably shoot myself if you accept. LOL. Kidding aside, if you would consider that, bring it. I might go a bit higher if you promise not to tell my wife. I'll be picking up a rear end I bought from Mark and a pan jig and Wilson...

Re: What have you done to your model T in March

Adapted a 15/16 " reamer to ream the driving plate bushing by installing sleeves over the shank to fit inside the brake drum bushings. I used sleeve retainer to hold the sleeves and turned them to .998-.999", same as the K R Wilson reamer, centering off the reamer pilot holes.

I noticed Mike has the inspection plate off the pan when he straightens it. Is there a risk the pan might deform when the plate is installed?
