Re: Bad habit when starting

Just to not be mistaken, if the engine backfires, the crank ratchet will not disengage regardless. The ratchet releases when the engine starts in the proper direction, spinning backwards locks the crank in, hence the danger.

Re: PayPal

It’s unfortunate since we all are pretty much friends and family here.... It’s almost insulting for someone not to trust enough to want buyer protection for a fee paid by the seller. Basically taking money out of the seller’s pocket and giving it to whoever gets rich at PayPal. People have a hard ti...

Re: NH Carb

Dan, the spray needle groove is from bottoming out but shouldn’t be an issue.
The float needle sticking is probably gum from the wonderful gasoline we get today.
Some carb cleaner and an old tooth brush on the needle and spray some on the seat, might take care of things.

Help with seat spring dimensions

I have numerous seat springs, some I’m sure are are for a Model T.
Can anyone please help with some sizes of them ?
I’m thinning out stuff that isn’t for a T and hopefully someone can use the T stuff.
I also have what I think is a Center door folding seat, I’ll post a picture of it later.

Re: Bad habit when starting

I’ve always used my right arm, I think the biggest thing is NOT to wrap your thumb around the handle and only crank 1/4 turn at a time. Starting at 9 o’clock and pull up to 12 o’clock, and then let go of the crank....
Others may differ.
I have spun a few on occasion !! :o

Re: Car wash Lake Erie style

All the 5 Great Lakes are fresh water, Norm.
I believe the largest area of fresh water in the world, I could be wrong about that. Ending up at Niagara Falls. A beautiful sight too.
I’d be more worried about the Muckleheads than muscles Tim, but they’re earlier in the season.

FS 2-Turn signal switches

Older aftermarket switches and wires.
Should be able to make work for a T...has a canceling wheel, might be a challenge to make that work.

Interesting package of piston rings

I wish they were for a T....3.5” set of 6 cylinder rings, sealed in a can ! :)
Might look good on a shelf somewheres.

What is the purpose of this gadget ?

I know what the springs are for, but what is this piece in the middle of the axle for ?
Looks like a pretty good axle, but it’s is bent a little in the middle.

Also what are these smaller springs for ?
TIA !

Re: NH Carb

I think since you have no fuel dripping when choking...it’s time for a compression test, dry then with a little oil in each cylinder.
Also check for a good seal at the intake manifold.

Good luck !

Re: Car wash Lake Erie style

You should see that stretch of road in the winter, that spray freezes for quite the spectacle.
You don’t see any boats on those 8’ers. Lake Erie 8’ waves are like 12-15’ waves on the ocean.
At least you don’t have to worry about it being flammable anymore, eh Tim !!
Nice pictures.

I know it doesn’t help but I have a brand new set of standard size iron pistons.
Have quite a few used ones, but would have to measure them.

Almost sounds like the main jet is loose or has some crap in it. The needle valve only lets fuel into the bowl or not....

Sounds more like a leaking head gasket, fill with water, start and see if you are getting bubbles.
Yep !! That’s cheaper than a radiator.
If you see bubbles on a cold start within a minute or two....head gasket is probable.

Re: KRW tool to ID please

For cutting valve clearance into the cylinder heads that have been milled (flat heads), 6050-B-1. I believe that the B-1 suffix would make it later V-8, and if it were just the B suffix it would be earlier, but do not quote me on that. Thanks Joe ! Doubtful that anyone would mill a T head that far ...
