Did that once about 34 years ago on my '23. Not knowing any better, I ran it for a year with the washer in there. Then I took off the inspection door to adjust the bands, and there it was, sitting pretty as a picture on top of one of the band springs.

Larry, the two valve sizes ended in October 1920 when the Ford obsoleted the larger size valve stem. That one was 3-3/8" long x 15/32" diameter (just shy of 1/2"). The remaining valve stem was exactly 3" long x 13/32". Just FYI.

Too much air will cause the reed to choke. You can overcome this by fitting a piece of tubing (rubber or plastic will do fine) inside the bulb's brass sleeve that reduces the amount of air to the reed. If you have the original type setup on a late '12-'14 style horn, just be sure that your new "bulb...

Yup. What Mark said. In addition, if the bolt hole is above, or almost above, the castellation in the nut, put a thin washer underneath. Finally, use as large a diameter cotter pin as you can get to go in. Nearly all holes/nuts listed to take 3/32" pins will quite easily take 7/64". You want the pin...

Re: Buying/bringing a T from Canada T into the USA
When my late Dad brought his unrestored original '23 Canadian coupe over the border in '05, the only border delay was answering the US Customs' agents questions about the cool car! The trouble came when he tried to license it. Everyone in the DMV whose job it was to know the answers to Dad's questio...

Mike, are you going to Chickasha? I have one (on a complete new wheel) I can bring that I would part with reasonably.

Re: 1911 coil box wire question
The original Kingston coilbox wire was solid copper insulated with silk and, later, cotton. That light wrapping allowed a slightly heavier gauge wire to be used. Your doorbell wire is probably OK; the (primary) current it will carry is pretty low.

I'm wondering if one of the big vendors will order a consignment of these. That would probably bring the shipping cost per tire down a little.

At the current exchange rate, that's $250.53 U$D. I'm sure that for good quality, most T owners would spring for that.

Re: Heinze coils and coil box question 1912 early 13
The photos below show the coils and their stencils, beginning with the first and ending with the last. The early "offset" coils, with one thick side, were used in 1911 and possibly late '10. The thick side was made that way so as to accommodate the mortise and tenon used early on, after the contact ...

Re: Needing hlep with this timer
I have two original aluminum timers, plus an original early Ford script cast iron timer. The iron timer (pictured), and one of the aluminum timers, have the same manhole style oiler. The second aluminum timer has an original brass twist style oiler, same as used on the chassis. I don't know if it's ...

OK; the run of 100 sets of new Grade 5 hub bolt nuts has sold out. Thanks MTFCA and everyone! If there is enough interest I could do another one but probably won't get to it until several weeks after Chickasha.

Yep; you are right. I have built coils for both cars over the years and should have kept them straight. Or at least not have been too lazy to get up and check the tag on a Heinze box that I have on my coil shelves.

Thank you once again for doing that for me, Dan. Much appreciated! If your memory is like mine, you won't remember the points as being the same as the ones in the OP's photo, but they are. Those same points were used on the one cylinder Brush coils and the '09 Hudson (or maybe it was the '09 Cadilla...

Re: What would this coil been out of?
That is a T-4256 Jacobson-Brandow coil unit that was used on the 1910 Model T. They were a good coil when new, and are good coils today after being properly rebuilt, but a major design flaw was locating that primary contact spike so close to the high tension terminal and the condenser. The rosin ori...

You can install a later, starter type field coil in a '13 with its original narrow nose pan if you use the later flywheel and magnets as well. It can even have the starter ring gear if you want to put it in. That's what I did on my '14 one day when Original Smith wasn't looking  but he has sinc...

I think you may be asking about Pratt & Lambert's Cherry Bark. That has been discontinued. I used it on my own '14 dash. At least one other poster here (besides me ) bought all the remaining stock at his local store so it's still out there.

I have the correct ones. #9 x 7/8" round head steel as John Regan and Larry Smith have said. I don't believe the screws changed unless the earliest were round head brass, but they would have been the same size and type.

I have repaired a lot of early rear wishbones by cutting off the worn and beat-up threaded sections and welding new studs in place. That could probably be done with the fronts as well.

Re: Odd coil??
It's definitely 1913-14 Heinze, depending on the contact locations I cited. Kingston made very similar coils at the same time but theirs have finger joints only at the top and bottom edges. Heinze units have them all the way up the sides. The ratchet you mention was changed to a very thin T-shaped b...

Re: Odd coil??
It's a Heinze. If the bottom contact is towards one end, it's a 1913. If in the center, it's a 1914. I make points for them, so they can be rebuilt like any other early coil.
