And just where is the flow of air going to go with a 1913 non- louver hood and engine pans fitted? if the radiator is marginal at best being over 100 years old, with even less flow by fitting the pans, well, yes it could very well run hotter than it should.

Going by the % of surface contact on the smear, I'd say the reason on one bolt being left a little loose is that the cap, A, is fitted 180 degrees out or, B, the cap doesn't belong to that rod. They are machined to be a match and not interchangeable.

Re: 1915 non brass radiator?

"Non brass radiator" well, not really such a thing or phased out, the radiators are still brass and restyled to be covered with a cowl on the 17 model and on.

Re: Factory drawing of two piece valve

I find that hard to believe, first off, the head is cast iron, smack that and it breaks like a biscuit, and second, those holes have been in valves of many makes for the lapping tool right up into the 70's.

Standard shape for a T, can't tell make from just the top, need to see the whole piston to get an idea of time frame and manufacturer.

Re: Magneto and battery charging system

Why splice, leave the mag wiring alone, just run your charge wire from the mag post to the diode, globe then battery.

Yes, starting on mag with starter or crank handle hot or cold is what a good mag is supposed to do.

Re: 26 cylinder head minimum thickness

I have a set of pistons that I was told came out of a T engine, the wrist pins are too big for A rods so thought may be chev, so just checking on that, may be questionable, chev at .850"? These come in at 910"

if it was the real deal, parting it out would make more $'s, but I think it is priced for what it is, converted block etc.

May never know, Ford used so many suppliers, this list is just for T con rods.

Re: Touring Top mounting issue

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, the bow should go well into the up-right bow so the screw is going into wood, do an old carpentry trick to make a screw tight, fill the hole with thin wood sticks, back in the day matches would do the job. I don't know if you can even buy a box of matches these ...

Re: Crankshaft Differences??

I don't think others are seeing your problem, first as you say, the length should be 3.125, 3-1/8". I can't see that crank ever coming out of a T block unless the bearing saddle had been shortened, I've seen them shortened before and babbitted to double the thrust area, which is one option for you, ...

The horn would be the least of your problems if you have to fit a water pump. :(

Re: 2 piece Full Floating Rear Hub

Out of the 5 T's I have for my own personal collection, only one has failed in the rear axle bearings and they were some fandangle after market things, never a problem with Henry's original set up of Hyatts.

The shield that is missing holds a pin and spring that stops the gear from working it's way into the flywheel ring gear when not being used.

Re: Setting Valve Clearance

Rocking is that one valve is just about to close and the other is just about to open, so in other words if you turn the crank a little each way the valves are rocking on the seats in the block.

Easiest way is TDC per cyl. No 1 set lash with the 2 valves are rocking on No 4, set No 2 with No 3 valves rocking, No 3 with No 2 rocking and No 4 with No1 rocking. 10 inlet and 12 exhaust.

Re: 1909 Model T Timer Source

David, that's correct, you need a cover from about the mid teens on, I can't remember the year of change but early covers that take the later timer would not take the modern cam seal without machining to do so.

Re: Fitting Camshaft Bearings - Opinion Wanted

Use good fitting ones all the time, I have a small bucket full to find the best for the job, it's usually the block diameter that's the problem, like the OD of the bearing, nothing is the same size. Another important thing is the endplay, if more than 5 or 6 thou, use one of the aftermarket thrust k...
