Not all covers are exactly uniform - that's why it's very important to use the "full circle" timing gauge to set your cover onto the block to center the timer/roller/gear to be concentric with the camshaft - using the small type that fits into the felt/seal recess can produce improper results.

Assuming you have a later style switch with the "bent-over" tabs holding it together, best to anneal the tabs prior to manipulating the tabs straight or if they do break off and they do occasionally, a quick tack weld in several spots will suffice to hold it back together.

Re: pan straightening/support question

I chased one for many years that was used in a Lake Washington marina with emery cloth attached for flattening out aluminum outboard heads - never did purchase it & don't know if'n it's even still there !

Re: pan straightening/support question

I've run into a situation where the front of the c.c. on the 4 dip near the ball socket had been "pushed" in obviously from a front end collision or extreme mishandling to a point the flywheel rubbed inside the pan ! All pans should be checked prior to installation.

Re: Clutching at clutches ?

"Jackrabbit" is just a modified turbo disc - you know you need clutch replacement when you have no more adjustment at the 3 fingers and the T clutch slips constantly ! Notice how thin the turbo disc tab is compared to the Ford disc, thus the wear pattern. What do the drum lugs look like ?

Re: pan straightening/support question

Normal driving won't cause a c.c. to come out of alignment - a front end accident is the likely culprit of tweaking the c.c. as the front radius rod has it's connection point located there. If you have a 4 dip c.c., then the pan arm to block supports ('26-'27 block) are highly recommended..

Re: Steve Jelf needs help

Yes, it's a motorcycle tire mounting machine. I had a longer "spools" made to hold the clincher rim. All three spool mounts are adjustable for tension and they hold the rim quite nicely - I use longer truck style bars for mounting - it came with a long bar that works good for removing the tire if no...

Re: Steve Jelf needs help

Steve has a few years on me & my knees surely don't appreciate the floor anymore - I do enough tires for the local club members that I justified the purchase of this mounting machine albeit manual ! Oh and yes, I install flaps if you want me to mount up your tires !

Re: Wanting Information: Wooden Wheel Spoke Specs.

21" at the moment - I have a wheel rack full of unrestored wheels mostly 23" and both seem to be consistent for distance from the "valley" between spokes to the hub plate - less than 1/4" - I looked at a set of respoked 21" wheels and there was way too much spoke between the valley and the hub plate...

Wanting Information: Wooden Wheel Spoke Specs.

Anyone happen to have information regarding the profile of a wooden spoke when placed into the felloe where the spoke valley meets the outer hub plate ???????????? To simplify: on an assembled steel felloe wheel, how much "wood" should be showing before the valley between 2 spokes approaches the ste...

Re: My rebodied 27 speedster

I had new Model T size brass inlet & outlets pipes made by my local, now retired radiator repair guy 30+ years ago that modified & attached to my Whippet radiator - original Whippet coolant pipes are quite small !

Thanks for the lead but I don't do Facebook. $300 is a ridiculous price for a "new" brass radiator to boot !
