If you can find a copy, get the book Pate's Early Ford Encyclopedia , it is full of information on early Fords. Be sure the copy you get still has the CD in the pocket on the back cover with lots of extra information not in the print book. :)
Thanks Herb & Mark, Langs had one on the shelf should see it by wed.

This is the timer for my model F. Would this have a brush or roller? Does anyone know how this hooks up to the shaft? Also what material would I use to reproduce the insulation ring?

Discussion about forge marks on various model T components got me wondering if anyone recognizes this one ? It's on a buggy axle that was repurposed as a post-hole pick, one end sharpened, the other flattened. It was on our place when we moved here 45 years ago. I've used it many times since, most recently yesterday as I moved the corral fence....

Hello!
The decking boards in my car hauler are shot and growing mushrooms. The only car I haul on it is my Model T Tudor. I'm thinking 2 inch treated southern yellow pine planks should be perfect. Any reason I should look for a different type of decking boards?
Thanks!

Douglas Fir is grown in the Pacific Northwest and it is the most commonly used lumber for wall studs and floor joists. It has kind of an alternating hard and soft grain on each growth ring. Whereas pine is a soft wood. Pine can be sanded very smooth and is quite Knotty. Often used for wall panels and rustic furniture.

With the control head mounted on the steering column, might have been Ford branded aftermarket. I get the impression from a quick look see in the Victor Page Ford V8 repair book, that factory supplied might have been mounted in the dash.

Heads if you own a diesel that uses DEF. Looks like a national shortage. Better get a extra jug or two.
When to local Walmart where normally have 2 dozen jugs only had 4 jugs total.

DEF... another way cultist idiots in public office mandate the needless burning of food .... and act to restrict the supply of agricultural essentials, including diesel fuels, fertilizers, etc, needed to produce enough food to feed 9 + billion people.

A contrast to the Model T Ford in its heyday was The Cole Aero-Eight. From 1915 to 1925 Cole featured a V-8 engine car in a variety of body styles. I find it interesting how much more sophisticated other cars were in the same era. Somehow it puts things in perspective and I appreciate the Ts just that much more.

I think all the early American V8s were split down the middle. This faciliated casting and machining, but added expense. Charles Sorenson has been credited with designing a uniblock V8 for Ford that could be produced economically. The uniblock design eliminated a number of manufacturing operations and also did away with some potential trouble...

I am looking to buy Wheel Dollies to move my vehicles around the garage. I'll either be moving my '28 A or '26 T or '55 Chevy truck. When the rating says it's good for 1,000 pounds is that at each wheel? Would 4 of them hold up a 3,000+ truck? Or do I need ones rated for the total weight of the truck?
Last post
I believe the wheel dolly ratings are per wheel. 4 dollies rated at 1,000 lbs each would probably do to move a 4,000 lb truck on a smooth, flat floor. Keep in mind that most pickups are nose heavy when unloaded. A typical V8 pickup weighing around 4000 lb might carry 2700 lb on the front wheels and 1300 on the rear wheels, or 1350 lbs on each...

To prove the point that water pumps DO have their place in society,...

The last six months have been the most expensive
for me in terms of equipment maintenance & repair
required to stay on the road …. 💰
As I type this - I am on a Greyhound bus traveling
along Interstate 10 towards Houston, Texas.
I was supposed to pick up Herb’s Telescoping
Apartment Camper on Monday - instead I
started the day getting towed...

I'm contemplating using it on my Model T, if I can get it working. Curious what it is, since it's nothing like the usual Trico or Folberth motors.
It's missing the cover over the reversing valve mechanism, so can only assume the brand name was printed on that.

Unfortunately the stamp with the patent stuff was applied at an angle and was not deep enough. 1932 is about the only useful bit of info.
Interestingly, there's another identical unit on ebay right now
Same deal - no info.
I opened it up and found it uses a rubber diaphragm which has of course completely disintegrated.

Generator without a battery

Is there a proper method to protect a 6v generator/cutout without a battery connected ? I’m thinking if it is just an open circuit, the generator may take a hit.
Can the output of the cutout be grounded, or a load placed in line ?
Thx
Last post
If you know it's a 3-brush, I am pretty sure you will need to ground it whenever it is run without a load. Ground the generator output terminal as shown in the photo above, NOT the output terminal of the cutout.

Last fall I was headed for town in the 1973 Suburban. At the first stop sign it died. It didn't seem like a big deal. I restarted and drove on. About a mile later the car died in the road and wouldn't restart. A turn of the key in the ignition switch got only a solenoid click. No turning starter motor, not even a Bendix clunk. I had the old beast...

In the depths of the depression, supporting a motor vehicle with the cost if parts, repairs and fuel was often an untenable proposition, as this photo attests. That doesn't mean certain aspects of progress didn't remain attractively useful.
No, it's not a Model A Ford - any guesses ?

When I was a boy, I lived in the Los Angeles area. We saw a lot of Model T's every day. There were also horse drawn wagons on the streets, but I never saw anyone in a buggy those days. This was in the late 1930s and early 1940's. After WW2 there were very few T's left on the street, but the Model A's were all around until at the mid 1950s.

Yes, I say the windshield hardware, the curve of the fenders, the running boards and transition to fender, Steering wheel spider and controls and the embossment on the splash apron are all the same as the '15 Overland. I would be surprised if it isn't that.
Another nice puzzle.
Thanks Rich.

So before I put this table saw in the trash I thought I would run it by the off topic forum to see if this can be salvaged. It is a Black and Decker Firestorm FS210LS table saw. The armature looks damaged (see pictures with wire broken) so it probably needs a replacement armature which is: Black and Decker 489593-00 ARMATURE. If it is available it...

How are you adjusting driving habits to improve fuel economy? I find that slowing down from 65-70 on the highway to about 50 mph has allowed indicated average mileage to slowly creep up from around 13.2 to 15.5 over the same daily route.

FJ - So where does the trailer wheel bearing grease go ?

FreighTer Jim » Wed Mar 16, 2022 1:22 pm

I just greased my EZ Lube hubs on my trailer.
EZ Lube spindles have the zerc at the
end of the wheel spindle.
It feeds the grease to the wheel bearings
from a small hole thru the center of the
spindle between the inner & outer bearing.
If your inner bearing seal is intact
the grease will fill and be forced
out the front wheel bearing
when...

This topic should alert everyone to avoid boat trailers. The wheel bearing maintenance is often neglected and the bearings are submerged in water after being heated up. This socks water into the bearings and dilutes the grease.
Also, these trailers are often overloaded.
.
Car trailer wheel bearings should go between 30,000 and 50,000 miles...

Right you are Rich P. B. and Leonard. Quite an early 12-20 Twin City tractor with a Pierce governor. 1919 is likely spot-on.

Ahead of their time. 340 cu in twin cam 16 valve engine.
The truck MAY be the one that uses the same engine as the tractor!
Oops. Drifted hard.
