Eagle eye, Larry, nice catch! Model A wheels get by though? That is indeed a 26 bed but the frame, suspension, motor and trans, body, windshield and roof are from 27 so I usually defer to that. I can only do this if I have at least 12 people wanting a set. I don’t know price but am sure it will be higher that last run. I think it will be over $500 for the two.

How many volts output from generator?
by
colonelpowers » Mon Apr 15, 2024 9:51 am
First post
My generator wasn't charging so I cleaned the armature and got it going but was surprised when I checked the voltage. I was expecting made 9 volts but it was bouncing between 12 and 14 before the cutout and just over 6 after the cutout. Is it normal to get that much juice out of the generator?
Last post
... Should I try it out again or just order a new one?
Get a new one, but FWIW I reiterate that, in my view, a voltage regulator would be a better purchase than another cutout. I also heartily agree with what both Ron and John have just said around protecting your generator while dealing with the issue...

Just to clarify what John's replied above.
Ruckstell did produce a 13/40 ring and pinion set. The Ruckstell 40 tooth ring gear was different from a FORD 40 tooth ring gear in order to accomodate the larger 13 tooth pinion. A Ruckstell 40 tooth ring gear is recessed on the back side mounting surface similar to the 13-39 tooth ring and pinion set...

I thought I would get a quote from Blockley for a couple of inner tubes.

Shipping is 56 Pounds.
Total cost for 2 tubes is 126 Pounds or $159
I wonder what it costs to buy them over there with the VAT added?
Royal Mail use to be relatively cheap.
Last post
I would think that Blockley is misssing out on a huge opportunity by not having at least one U.S. distributor instead of selling and shipping four or five tires and/or tubes at a time directly to U.S. customers.
One reason for their process is to reduce inventory holding costs. Model T tire demand isn't exactly the same as a modern car's that...

Been offered a complete engine trans . Assuming it's complete from front of block to back of trans, what's the value? I don't need it and if it's cheap enough, I'll pick it up for a spare in case of ...
If it's locked up or, missing stuff, I'll deduct from there.

Yeah, not really interested at $300. I was really just curious about getting it and it's close enough to pick up potentially saving it from the scrapper.

I have a brass T in the shop that presently has a 12v Group 121R battery rated at 550CCA and a T starter & later hogshead retrofitted. In my experience, full size batteries outlast the smaller ones almost without exception. Applying a heavy draw, such as a T starter, to a small battery will probably shorten its life, and they seem to come with a short life built in. For non-starter use, a smaller battery ought to do fine, other than its lower storage...

Is there a sure-fire way to identify an original New-Day timer cap? With all the Repos that have been made I suspect it would be easy to be mistaken at a swap meet.

The original New Day timers were dark brown. The bodies were made of Bakelite. If you rub a spot fairly hard on one for about five seconds to get it warm you'll notice a sort of petroleum aroma to it.

Working on a Ruckstell out of a '15 Touring from the Lake Tahoe area many years ago - anyone recognize this type of outboard axle bearing ? The p.s. has what appears to be knock-off tabs across from each other - not so on the Ruckstell half ? Federal # FS88508 on the outer carrier.
Also: how not to bush a #160 housing !

Appreciate the comments Hap - supposed history of this '15 Touring was it was one of the xxx number built during the 1915 San Francisco Expo ! I'll check the housings a bit closer BUT they both take the later open spool & it's a later type torque tube so I'm assuming they were modified .

There has been some discussion about aftermarket distributors and I would like to get this cleared up in my mind. As I understand there was
or is a gentleman that designed & manufactured the drive to run a Bosch distributor on a model T. What I cant seem to figure out is what was
his name? So far I have heard Rader, Raider, Reader, Reeder & R.G....

I have a freshly rebuilt front axel that has the wrong spindles (early ones).
I had not idea there were different spindles and as Murphy's Law took over my wooden wheels don't go one far enough.
Can I re-use the King Pins or do I need new ones?

I have my new Rootlieb sheet metal and the body is being worked on so my question is on the paint and costs. I do want a professional paint job and plan to bring the fenders, running boards etc to a local shop and wondering if anyone has had a recent experience and how much to expect it to cost.
I may wait to bring them the body as it is finished...

Hi,
I have a Henry Carter from Madisonville KY, who have ordered (and paid) for a set of refurbished coils on eBay.
Due to shipment costs, I do normally not deal with Model T folks from the US and you do also have lots of alternative US based solutions, but now the payment have come through to me, but he do not react on the messges I've send to...

I wanted to expand a bit on the notion of the speedster pickup . While not a commonly seen thing, over the years I have seen a fair number of era photos of what amount to speedster pickups . They are an interesting curiosity. Part sporty roadster, part practical...

Came off a speedster friend has. Don’t know history, hope someone here can tell me more. It bolts to what looks to be Model A transmission so it can bolt on to a T engine.
Replaces the Ball Cap, AKA 4th main.
Thinking about making them if no one else is still doing it.

Looking for a brand name or information on a set or 4) 8-spoke Model t steel wheels I recently acquired. All was well until I measured them for tires. All 4) 24 . So 30 x 3's would work but think they wouldn't look correct or perform well especially on a Tudor. Are 32 x 4's an option? Any advice appreciated. (Or a set of 23 steel Wheels)
Thanks...

Everyone has their preference with good results. Engine modifications also affect selection. The original Ford specification was for a light oil, which has been equated to Today's 20w. One factor in selecting the engine oil is that it is also used by the transmission, often referred to as a wet clutch (as in some motor cycles & Diesels). Rotella...
