First a little back info, 2022 I had hernia surgery and then in 2023 I had shoulder surgery so my 1919 Touring car has not seen a lot of use. The engine had a complete rebuild from Gorge King around 15 years ago and has 0 issues until just lately. Maybe 500 miles sense the build. I'm running straight 40W oil. It doesn't get cold enough in Florida...

Hi all. My shut off valve, attached to the sediment bowl of the cowl tank leaks a lot when the engine stops and the valve is not shut off. Can I remove it and just use the sediment bowl shut off to stop gas flow to the carb? These extra shut off valves were not original from the factory, or were they? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. John
Last post
The bottom line, and the direct answer to your subject line, Do I really need a carb shutoff valve? , is yes , you really need one. It's up to you what style or where to locate it. Never, ever trust the carb float valve to function properly, no matter how long it has worked flawlessly.

Have any tests been made to determine if there is a difference in HP running without magnets on the flywheel.
You would have a reduction of weight on the flywheel which would also include a reduction in enertia.
Most are using 12 volt and a distributor. Also doesn't a magneto and 4 coils give better performance than a dributor as the RPM...

I have fitted 26-7 brake drums without machining them back and they fit in the earlier pans. You just cant run the wide band and lining on them, even if you make adjustments to the band ears so they line up with the earlier pedals. It saves modifying an original Ford part.

The half manifold clamps have stand-offs off's so more tension can be applied without cocking the clamps on the studs. The modern Ford 13/16 wheel nut clutch setter has a handle.
This group holds the original Ford cam nut wrench in place so it does not cam off the nut.

My 1915 T has, I believe, a repro brass radiator and the lower coolant elbow is quite rusted. I see no holes, but looks like it's dripped slowly for years. Also, the female threads for the drain valve are too rusted to replace the valve. Any ideas for a sealant I might use? I was thinking of POR15 fuel tank or their Hi-Temp paint. Also, how might...

Hello T-people
Can anybody help me further? What material is the hogshead made of? Can it be welded?
I have a hogshead with tight pedal shafts, but unfortunately a corner on the back broke off during the drilling.
Can I fix this?
Greetings from Switzerland
Last post
I used pure nickel stick electrodes from the local tool store.
The standard designation is:
(EN IS0)E C Ni-Cl 3
AWSA5.15: ENi-Cl
DIN 8573E Ni BG 11
Maybe that will help.

Hello T-people
I had a lot of play in my driveshaft ball. I wasn't very impressed with the provider's insert disc and so I've been thinking for a while about how I could solve the problem.
While straightening the rear axle, I had the idea of trying to heat and cool the ring.
It took some patience and several rounds of heating and slow cooling...

Most times, it’s the ball cap that’s worn out, not the drive shaft ball. About half the ball caps I get are not acceptable cores and get scrapped. Also, a lot of T owners think the drive shaft ball is worn out, when in reality they are installing a gasket behind the ball cap (between the ball cap and drive shaft ball retainer) where it doesn’t...

Ok a question for those in the know. Does anyone have solid verifiable evidence or information on the placement, etc. of these tags? I was told that these tags were not put on by Ford at the Factory. Making a guess here, were they added at dealerships?
Thank you in advance. Trying to settle a dispute/discussion.

Thank you to everyone, very helpful information. Great to have such a valuable resource for the hobby.
One of the T's has a Dealer-tag which is placed on the passengers side of the car and is different from the patent or id tags in the first 2 photos I posted. I understand that this tag was indeed added by the dealer.

I’m helping a club member with her car, and found the transmission brake band appears to have real brake linings. It was her father’s car and wasn’t driven much, I’ve checked the drum and found no burns or cracking, some light wear. Going to put Scandinavia material on the band.
Has anyone seen this before ?

Alan, more concerned with the brass and material getting into Babbitt and the quick wearing of the drums. This stuff feels like 60-80 grit sandpaper.

Last post
That's general advice. Refer to Ford specs for specifics.
In my opinion, .003 is too tight for exhaust valves, and about right for intake.
For an engine that is expected to run at higher speeds and loads, such as a speedster engine or a TT engine, I'd go with .004 on intake and .006 on exhaust. New assemblies need some run-in time before running...

Does anyone have knowledge about this head. I hope that the photos do the combustion chamber justice. The part # is A-1-2011. Also has A.C.

If you run your engine within the normal T speed ranges at typical loading, standard heat range plugs should do fine.
If you have a stock ignition system, the plug gap probably needs to be standard or a little less.
An engine that runs at high speeds and loads might require a slightly cooler plug.
A high performance ignition system would allow...

I am finishing a late 13 block someone else started. The block has had seats installed, ground and guide reamed to accept what I believe are chev valves that have been included. The valve dimensions are 5.103 long. 1.506 head diameter. .3415 stem diameter. They have 1 notch about. 90 or more wide for the keepers. The slot diameter there is .3003 ....

I have a dandy little valve spring compressor which make installing caps and collets much easier. It is a period piece with jaws which open in PARALLEL, and click open that way when set, leaving both hands free. This means the cap stays central on the valve stem, allowing easy fitment of the two collets. The scissor type valve lifters cock the...

How do you keep track of the gas in your multi car collection

Hi all,
My good buddy (acar collector) wonders if anyone knows of a good system/app which could keep track of gas levels/condition in his collection. I know he could use pencil and paper. Just wondering if anyone has found an easier plan. Thanks so much!
Last post
I have 12 cars in my collection now. Those I know will sit over 6 months have the gas and carburetors drained and a paper and string tag hanging from the steering wheel stating “ no gasoline in tank”. Others being driven or worked on have the gas tanks filled to the top to keep moisture out and a dated tag on the steering wheel. Spare portable gas...

This is what my coupelet looks like now. It is getting a starter installed.
The engine block has had some repairs to it. On the side near the rear some welding has been done.
Freeze cracks have been repaired.
Both of these repairs were made about 40 years ago and they have not leaked or caused any problems. I guess they are good to go. The crank...

Frank, that is my car. The repairs to the block were done about 40 years ago and have caused no problems. The car ran fine. When crossing the Narrows Bridge, which is a 6 lane bridge, I pushed the car a little. I was told later I was doing 50 MPH. It would have gone faster with no problem but I thought I was going fast enough.
With a starter on it...

It brings sadness to announce the passing of Bob Parmenter who was known to many of you. He was part of the Youngstown Model T club since the 1960's. He was a mentor for the hobby and an extraordinary Model T mechanic and heavy truck mechanic all his life. He loved those Detroit Diesels the best. Rest in Peace Uncle Bobby. He was 91.

Here’s a colorized 1920’s downtown Waco post card. Horse and buggies, street car, early cars and a few Model T’s. At the very end of the street was the town square. Trying to figure out if this a model T deck lid.
Measuring the top from outside edges it is 32-1/2 L x 21-1/4 W.
I'm not sure how many different sizes were used with model T's.
Thanks,
Clay

Rather than tacking this onto the other LED thread, I just have a question. This seems to coincide with engine RPM. I notice it in both bulbs, on magneto or on...

I followed the link you posted. It did not offer any explanation of componentry used in those lamps that might prevent the flickering Noel has identified. It may be that I've missed something, so I wonder if you could post that detail here?

I am getting close to installing the metal panels to my Detroit Electric (I know this is off topic). One of the things that is obvious is that the wood structure was totally painted prior to the panels being installed. I’m wondering about what kind of paint that is available today people have used?
Thank you

Ford did not give much thought to the fact that Model T’s would, for the most part, be kept outside before garages came along with the body wood being exposed to the elements. Today, the results are, most original wood must be replaced. A lot of our generation was fortunate enough to be taught working fundamentals and the basic use of tools when...
