Today I got to spend the day with two of my favorite people doing my favorite thing. I spent the day in the garage with my Dad, Russ Furstnow, and son Jordon. We were restoring the fenders for my son’s 1925 Model T pickup. It was absolutely fantastic to watch my Dad pass on his knowledge to Jordon. I am so proud of them both!!!

A friend is clearing our some old car stuff to make room for more clocks (go figure). He has these three lamps which look like Model T. One is marked Patent Oct 27 14.
Are these T lamps, and if so for what years, and what is a range of value? Anything else of note such the maker identified on the one chimney? Many thanks in advance.

Question about carbide/acetylene hose clamps
Replies: 15
by
Tbird » Mon Mar 08, 2021 7:24 pm
First post
I thought I read somewhere that the acetylene gas hose was not suppose to have clamps? But rather it just slips on the brass pipe? This was due to allowing the hose not building up to pressure?
The clamps I'm referring to are the brass ones that attach to the red hose. Any clarity on this
Thanks

I have a set of 100 negatives taken from an unknown tour of western US. Negatives number 59 and 60 are of a wrtecked 1911 Model T Ford. I beleive the tour took place in 1912. The radiator does not have the Ford name and the filler neck looks different. I beleive it is a heavy duty radiator.

You can generally spot the electrified headlamps by the full reflectors near the front of the lamp door and lens. Acetylene gas lamps burn rather hot, and the Mangin mirrors or other reflectors need to be some distance back so that they do not burn, break, or smoke up. Electric lamp bulbs run considerably cooler and allow fuller reflectors up near...

I’ve been looking for a period traffic light prism for a long time. They rarely show up on eBay and often for more $$ lthan I’m willing to pay. I hit an infield double the other day at a local antique mall. Both from 1926, both from Cleveland and I have a great use for both. The seller put his price tag on the moonbeam box and the young clerk took...

Thanks Jim, good advice. I’ve got a later Fulton brand in another car, and it works fine with just being held against the glass with a spring. I may see if I can do that first. If you ever check out eBay, the cheap Fulton prisms sell for $15. The real deal usually sells into the hundreds. The reason for that is the plastic ones don’t work.

Howdy,
I haven’t messed with T’s in a while. I still have a 1915 touring sitting in the corner of my garage waiting on me to start restoring it. One of its issues is the frame has the running board brackets and fender irons bolted on. It’s a bit beyond my capabilities to rivet them back on. So, my question is, what’s the going rate for a decent...
Last post
Yes, the fender irons are bolted on. 3/8 bolts, 24 threads per inch if I recall correctly. Originally, they had castle nuts and cotter pins on the outside and underneath. If you aren't going for trophies or an OCD purist, standard nuts and lock washers work fine. Bolts should be grade 5 or equivalent (good original bolts are fine!).

The exhaust pipe needs 'adjusting'. Fitting spacers/shims/alternative mountings are all masking the real problem, one which is not uncommon with reproduction exhaust pipes. I would take the pipe off and make the 'adjustment'. All you need is a fork in a tree so you can slightly increase the bend.
The bigger the tree the better, as that will reduce...

I am looking for a photo that I recently saw mention of (and an article if an article was included) that I believe shows the December 1927 Launch of the Model A Ford at Holland Park....

I think it may be the English Ford Times as it seems there maybe a United States, Canadian and English version?

I am just sitting here thinking (scary I know) but with all the period pictures being posted on the forum did camera sales for Kodak increase as the Model T gained popularity? It seems that everyone had to have a picture of their car and or adventure with their car. I should include all the cars sales not just Fords but Ford was produced for the...

When we got married in 1958, we used an old Kodak camera with a bellows on it. You adjusted the distance setting by how far out the lens was from the film. The negatives were the size of a post card, so did not need to be enlarged. We also had another newer camera with a flash bulb. We set the two cameras side inside the room and the Kodak was set...

This really is a 100 year old story (today), but we need to start at the beginning.
During the summer of 1906, Ford Motor Company sent a batch of Ford six (Model K) motors across the river to Ford of Canada. The ledger below from Ford Canada tells us the now completed Model K number #211 (bottom of photo) is shipped to New Zealand during October...

Many people think that the iconic Ford script is Henry Ford’s creation and his handwriting. Not so. In around 1907, Henry was looking for a logo for his fledgling company, when the company’s first Chief engineer/designer and friend, Childe Harold Wills, who also printed business cards used the calligraphy from his own cards to stylize the Ford...

Lang's has 5 different types of wood firewalls. Hay wagon to speedster project is a 1925-26 frame with a 1915-16 themed upper style. But I would like it to have a starter for convenience and fiance's hair demands a full square window. So which one? This one maybe? 'Firewall, one piece, for cars with starter, birch plywood' 3634H

If you have a 1915-16 style hood former, any firewall to suit that will do. As far as I know, the only difference in a starter type firewall is the second slot for the in cabin choke pull.
A full width windscreen can be mounted on woodwork mounted behind the firewall. It can be any shape you want it to suit whatever size screen you decide upon....

Like Mark had said, the one is a distributor wrench and the other 2 are bearing or bushing pullers (I can't remember which) for the transmission I believe, later V-8 tools. I have no idea what the last one is.

Mr Howe has repeatedly said he is no longer taking on any work. No where in the post did he even hint he was looking for more work.
Why was the post moved to services to make it look like he's advertising for...

The Fun Projects web site is down and Birdhaven/Texas T Parts are out of stock on the 6v voltage regulator.I just tried Lang's and they also are out of stock.
I would like to get one of these for my new project. i fitted one to the '23 years ago & its nice to drive without having to worry about the battery getting to little or too much charge....

I know they are called E timers and I timers, but I consider these as pieces of electronic wizardry that are substitutes for a real timer. I have an E timer on my roadster. I like the way it performs and does away with the need for operating the advance/retard lever during operation. I really like the fact that I can quickly replace the unit and...

WHAT ARE COMMON TEMPERATURES TO EXPECT FOR A MODEL T COOLING SYSTEM?

I’m writing to see if I could please get some input from others who have experience with the Model T cooling system. Kyle,
To answer your original question......Here is how it was done back then. Since they interfere with a camshaft in the cylinder block these were intended to only be used under a overhead cam setup.
Thanks Layden exactly what I was looking for.

I am starting to install my classtique top on my 21 touring. The instructions use 2 short straps from the rear bow to the tack rail on the rear of the body which will prevent the top to move forward. I have noticed in photos of touring tops that they show straps going from the bow to the body. It appears to me they both do the same thing and if...
Last post
I was interested in the discussion because when I tow my tourer over long distances on my open trailer, I fold the top, take it off the car and carry it in the tow vehicle. That means the straps at the back are detachable. Normally on our colonial built bodies the strap is tacked at the back and carries all the way forward to the front bow in ONE...

Spark Rod Lever

First post
I'm working on a 1914 steering column. It has a later style straight spark rod lever riveted on badly. I don't know if I'm going to be able to save it. My question is were they bent all the way up to 1921 when they discontinued the ball joint on the timer rod? At any rate, I'm probably going to need another. The part number is 3530.
Last post
I found I have two like Steve posted. I have one I'll probably use that I had to bend the angle back in. The other one I have, someone enlarged the hole for the pin, so it would need fixing. I'm rebuilding a 1914 steering column for a friend. What a job! Getting the pins out for all the levers and spring retainers is definitely no fun at all!

Repop hub cap differences
Replies: 5
by
Tbird » Thu Mar 04, 2021 12:03 pm
First post
I’ve seen some differences in the repo brass hubcaps.
Between Snyder’s and Vintique
Notably more threads on the inside, thicker wall of the hubcap, and more defined on the shape where the wrench would snug on to. Is one vendor better than another in their reproduction? I heard at one time Bobs antique auto parts was reproducing these as well?...
Last post
The new thicker hubcaps I've seen are probably better than what Ford made. However, if you are into originality, be sure you know what you are doing! There is a '13 hubcap on the forum now that appears very nice, but I don't know anything about them.

That key is shaped like a half circle. I think it's called a Woodruff Key. What I did was to take the pitman arm to an auto parts store and got a key which fits in the slot in the arm. It seemed to fit right into the shaft and works just fine.

A little late, but here is a video of the auction showing the Model T's and other cars. I was blown away at what steep prices some were getting for almost no car! I thought that some would go for a few hundred, not a few thousands! Even the shoddy looking 14 that went for over 2k!

When bending the arm to centre the bolt on the cam, it will pay to twist it a bit also, so the bolt meets the cam squarely. Otherwise it will tend to thrust to the side of the cam.

Tommy, Speedy John is right also but it's hard to find a 5mm thick seal.
Check how much clearance you have between your pulley and the front plate? Each engine has some variation but most all have plenty. Since you've already cut your seal, make some more cuts about 1/8 or better wide and you'll be able to form it back round again I bet? If it...
