How is the speedometer cable on a 26 Roadster supported? Laying on the tie rod doesn't seem appropriate. Photos of your installation would be appreciated.

My 25 roadster with Corbin speedo required a device to hold it up and also away from the front radius rod. I threaded a cable/zip tie through a short length of 1/2 flared copper pipe, around the cable, back through the pipe and around the radius rod to fix it in place. This supports the cable at the same time keeping it held away from the radius...

I wonder if there is a good fix for a loose bearing race in the front wheel hub of the model T? The tolerance is about 012 thousand and the race just drops in. Has any one use the Lock tight product to tighten the race in the housing?
The hub is a Three bolt Ash wire wheel. Let me know that you have done with this problem. Tom

Or so Henry Ford seemed to believe. He was nearly right. He came closer to perfecting the automobile in the 1920s than anyone else; it had everything you need, and nothing you don't. There were countless add-on accessories for that.
But there's really nothing perfect, and we all know that he was very reluctant to shut down production of the Model...

The real problem with compression that low is that you cannot create enough suction to suck in any gas charge.
I had a 1950 Ford like that, if it sat long enough (about two weeks) to drain all the oil off the cylinder walls, it could not get any gas to fire.
I had to remove two spark plugs and add a shot glass full of engine oil followed by a...

That's only one of the Beauties of a Warford. You can drive super slow in underdrive and sometimes idle in high pedal or creep very slow in low pedal and not have to start and stop. I like under and high pedal so your leg doesn't get tired. If your car is properly tuned you can slow to a putt putt putt slow idle which is about a walking pace.

It depends on what size of burners you are using. They are rated in cubic feet of gas burned per hour.
Standard burners used on the Model T were .75
1 candlepower = 12.57 lumens
.50 burners put out 18 candlepower x 12.57 = 226 lumens
.75 burners put out 29 candlepower x 12.57 = 365 lumens

I am looking for a pair of side curtain rods for a 26 roadster coupe. Where is a good place to start looking? Picture of my T attached. I know they are specific to model and year. I am assuming what ever I find may have to be adjusted to fit because I'm sure there are not part numbers on the rods. Any advise I should be aware of on my search?

Not all “potmetal” is bad. That’s actually a generic term. Back in the day it was a miracle metal. Diecast is another term, but that means just what you think. Items were cast in a metal die to very close tolerance. There are antique auto items I stay away from like the plaque. Most , but not all A-C speedometers, for one. Some late Stewart...

I've got a Ruckstell for my '14 and I understand there needs to be some machining done to get the pieces to all fit up to the '14 housing and/or spool. What needs done?

First for the million $ question; original or new one?
Where the pinion bearing housing bolts to the Ruckstell, is it flat or stepped around the outer edge? If stepped then your 14 parts should just bolt up. The right side axle housing should bolt up to the Ruckstell. Ford did not change to the open spool or bearing housing till around 1921 so...

I used a full-sized battery for mine. I mounted it in an aftermarket running board-mounted battery box from back in the day. Those were often used on TT's, since most of those came without electrical equipment. They turn up from time to time at swap meets and on ebay.

I always use this simple trick on my cars. I think Ted Ashman shared this originally. I put a small chisel mark ( Dremel cutoff would do the same) at top dead center. Original windscreen glasses fitted into a brass channel, which in turn fitted into the windscreen frame. This worked well in the brass frames of the early cars. I'm getting ready to paint my wood spoke wheels on my 1926 truck. I'd be interested to hear recommendations on a good primer and paint. I want to paint them black. I know some people sand and stain them - what are your thoughts on this?

David, I believe the additives used in bumper paints are not likely to be compatible with paint normally use to paint wooden wheels. A good quality household enamel over properly prepared and primed wooden spokes will give years of service without cracking and deterioration. You just need to use paints from the one system for best results.

Installing new outer felt seals on my 25 TT and they just don't fit. The one that came out was about 1/8 the new one is about an inch wide. The retainer is only about an inch total. Any ideas?
Last post
There never was a felt under the cap during production. Felts have been added over the years but they are not original to the TT. If you do install or manage to install a felt under that short little cap, don't forget a washer for the bearing to rub on.

Hello all,
I want to keep the original Ford sick duck horn but repaired a Sparton AHOOGA horn that I wish to mount in addition; keeping both horns. Looking for ideas on where to mount and the brackets used. Pics please. A search showed a couple people mounted on the radiator rod.
Thanks,

I put my 24 on my lift today and changed/replaced the front spring shackles and bushings. Found the right perch was easy to turn and tightened the nut at the wishbone close to half a turn !
Also had a lot of movement at the U-joint ball when applying the handbrake. So I put a shim in it and greased it good.
Replaced a couple oil caps and lubed...

Was there any part unchanged during manufacturing?

Random question. Was there any part of the Model T which was unchanged in design/material and therefore indistinguishably different through 1909 and 1927?
I assume no.
So, then that leads to my next question. What was the longest period of time that a part was manufactured unchanged and what part was it?

Identify Flywheel

Can anyone identify this flywheel for me. It appears to be a Model T flywheel, but it has the high ring of metal around the outside in place of the spacers/spools for the magnets. Was this ever issued from the factory? Was it an old time modification for something that did not run with magnets? Maybe used on a Ford Tractor or stationary motor?

Some clever soul did that to increase torque. It would be good in a truck, doodlebug, or stationary power unit.

Do it from on top.
Use a bar to wedge the spring leaf away from the lid so you can assemble it and get the screws in with the lid vertical.
I did it last week so I had a piece to take to get paint matched.

It sounds like you have a mirror mounted in a steel ring like some Victor acetylene lamps.

James, they are in series and connected together by the engine frame, look at the patent.
That makes the spark gaps have to be equal to equally share the spark.
The Ford Coil supplies about 9,000 AC Volts that is equally divided.

Many of the Simmons parts interchange with one of them.

I checked Lang's and Snyder's web sites. They appear to have them. A call will tell you for sure. The Model A and Model T would be the same except for the name plate. If you get the Model A motor meter, make sure it either says jus Ford or says Boyce so it won't designate Model A.
