Proper Place For A Main Fuse….

First post
When a Model T has a starter solenoid between the battery and the starter where is the proper place for a fuse. Electrically challenged here so please be kind….😊
Last post
Thank you for your time and all the drawings. My other model T has a fuse at the starter switch but this one is a little bit confusing since it uses the solenoid. The car does have a main disconnect back at the battery but I was more concerned about something catching on fire while the battery was energizing everything.

It looks like oil pan on my 1927 Touring had some welding done on the frame mounting ear and it's leaking oil in that area, anyway I bought two oil pans at an auction and would like to fine someone reasonable close to the Grand Rapids MI area with a jig that could check the pans for me and possible straighten one of them if need be.

I am going to make a longer tubular filter screen for a gas tank and have not soldered for many years. I see one can buy small sheets of stainless steel screen. Are there not two types of solder? What would be the correct type to use on SS or does it matter? Any other advice appreciated. Thanks…
Last post
I believe stainless steel requires silver soldering. The higher temperatures required for silver soldering are very difficult to control when using wire mesh. Brass mesh and soft solder are far easier to work with. Getting the brass mesh to hold the shape you require is made a lot easier if you cut the mesh on the flat and solder the edges. Then...

repairing mangled lamp font base
by
Rich Eagle » Thu Oct 14, 2021 6:37 pm
These lamps are tricky.
I wanted to reassemble this one that had the font forcibly removed without lining the 4 tabs up. The hole was no longer round. I cut some maple to fit the curve of the base for the font. Then by using the curved latch plate as a form I could hammer the lip back into shape.

I've had two different 26 fordors; still have one at the present. I do think that I remember the rear floorboards being two piece.

A stock T engine does not need a high zinc oil to protect the cam/lifters. The low speeds, low spring pressure, light valve train, low lift, and mild cam profile make it un-necessary. It won't hurt anything, but it's not needed, any more than high octane gasoline. A quality non-detergent oil with no additives at all is sufficient, if you change it...

Plastic Cased Coils….

Many moons ago the plastic cased Model T coils on the market were criticized for poor quality and dependability. Do the newer ones sold now work ok?
The reason I ask is that in my area of Texas near the Gulf Coast our heat and humidity cause regular wood cased coils to expand and getting them out of a coil box is sometimes nearly impossible. I...

The indentations are there to make the thickness of the magnets consistent. When metal or any malleable material is bent the material at the outer radius is pulled in tension. At the inner radius it is in compression. The material flows as the molecular bonds are broken and reestablished. The thickness of the magnet at the outside radius will...

I've painted a number of original wood steering wheels over the years. I put in all four screws with the spider, but leave them loose so the paint can get under where the spider goes. I've not had a problem. Note, not all the screw holes always line up with the ones in the wood, so you have to rotate the spider until you find a match.

You would need to determine how the field circuit is connected on the application the regulator was designed for. As I understand it, the T generator feeds the field circuit via the 3rd brush, thence through the field coil series, thence to ground. Many later generators had the field lead brought out to an insulated terminal on the case and the...

Beside a little oil around the spark plug, if the threads are worn enough, you might even hear a little whistle or a chirp when pulling a hill. Caused by the combustion gas leaking out. Sealing them does fix both problems.

1.) Who near Michigan would be a good choice to rebuild it, and
2.) What would it take to convert it to 12 volts?

The fun projects regulators only work for the voltage designed. There are 3 - 6v, 8v, 12v.
If you are going to charge 12v, !/2 the generator output. 4 amps should be plenty.

can a buckboard pick up be put on the back of a 12 torpedo roadster?

I asked this before and someone was kind enough to respond but I forget who he is.
I would like ot PM him if he responds again.
The pick up will extend about 18 to 20 inches I think. If so, won't that potentially crack or break if someone sits on the tail?
I would grateful if someone posted pictures of their converted 11-14 converted roadster...

I am still appreciating you posts on the buckboard.
I am printing them out for reference. Then going to an Amish gentleman for consideration of the build. His business makes wagons etc... for the Amish. They also do iron works too.

Jack Tarlinton » Sat Oct 09, 2021 11:23 pm
Hi Everyone,
I'd like to report a scammer who goes by the name of Ian Dyler, and possibly others.
He tried to sell me a set of roadster irons using photos from the HAMB and other places. He made contact via my wanted ad on this website.
Uses good English, reasonably spoken.
His email address is:
iandyler22@gmail.com
He asks for PayPal...

I use a capacitor test meter. I have not seen any non rebuilt coil over 60 years old that had a good capacitor.
The dozen or so that I rebuilt 5 years ago using the slightly flattened style capacitor still tests good at this time.
New capacitor meters are available at a reasonable price on the internet. I highly recommendto all to get one. Mine...

This happened to me on an A, but could also happen on a T. When I was in high school I had a 29 A. One morning on the way to school, it started running lean so I fiddled with the richness mixture. It kept getting worse until it quit running. Turned out the carburetor had fallen off the manifold. The bolts came out! This car had a Tiltson...

A kid in a nearby town inherited a stack of Ford Times and threw them on marketplace. Inside one issue were two vehicle registration cards for the yrs. 1914 and 1915. Odd Radiator Fill Necks

First post
I have seen two odd radiator fill necks on T radiators. Both necks were on 1926 flat tube, two row core radiators (the odd balls), Unlike the familiar plated neck used on most low and high radiators from 1917 to 1927, these necks are perfectly straight with internal threads for the cap on the inside, kind of like 28-29 radiator fill necks. Has...
Last post
This is the radiator I put on my '22 Coupe. The neck is the same diameter all the way to the tank. It is a low one and one of the aftermarket replacements. Some may recognize the neck casting. I would replace it with one with the proper neck but it cools better than any others I have.

It is tube and fin but I have some cellular radiators...

What is the difference in these differentials ?
Last post
It looks like I can mix and match the different styles of differential halves. I can used the bottom half with the thru bolts, and then go with a top half with or without grooves. Both look good in terms of wear.
I have switched tops. The axle gear hole is/was originally 1.812 Measure them, to know for sure.
A best guess on the stud type usage...

Is it possible the lube is too thin? I have had leak troubles in a number of cars from transmissions, rear axles and transaxles and I traced it to the lube. Modern thin-bodied gear lube is formulated to reduce running drag and help boost mileage, while original gear boxes almost always took 600w. I have kept a barrel of steam cylinder oil around...

I have no clue whether these rims are nickel or chrome plated. How does one remove the tiny spots in the plating? Would it be best to use a cloth wheel with rouge and then seal with wax or is there a better option. Will decide what to do more permanently later on …😊

Michael, since the previous owner CONVERTED the 25 to look like a 26-27, why not paint all plated surfaces black, and return it to original, eliminating the problem of plating deterioration? BTW, what's the verdict on the white wall tires? :D

Are the 11/2 rim liners ok for my 1927 wheels or do I need the 5 wide rim flaps?
Last post
Use narrow rim strips in your wire wheels, the rubber strip protects the tube where it rides in the drop center. That area has the weld joints of the spokes that can rub and wreck a tube.
Never use a flap in Ford welded spoke drop center rims. If a flap is used, the tire casing can’t be squeezed into the drop center, and if installed, later...

1914 Crank Pulley Removal and Reinstallation Question

I have a late 1913 engine (#369365) in my 1914 Depot Hack with what appears to be a correct narrow snout crankcase (oil pan w/ 3 dip inspection plate). I removed the radiator and fan to provide good access to the front cover. My original intent was to correct two problems: leaking crankshaft seal and off-center cam shaft to front cover alignment....
Last post
You should be able to get the camshaft cover off without pulling the engine unless someone installed a modern seal on the end of the crankshaft which would fit into the groove in both the cover and the crankcase.
