Here's a Switch. ('35 starter Sw)
While I was waiting for parts for my '35 I took apart the starter switch. It's a little like a T switch. It was frozen from lots of rust inside. It is held together buy bending 4 tabs at the corners.
The contact bar is held to the plunger by riveting it over a washer. It had to be drilled to get it apart. I made a piece to replace the ruined pin and pressed it into a hole I bored in the plunger.
The spring was rusted, broken and had little spring left in it. I stretched an extension spring and made it a compression spring. The insulating pieces were a cardboard which had decomposed. I had some hard rubber to cut and replace it.
The copper pieces cleaned up well.

I annealed the 4 tabs before bending them back in place. Then painted it with some silver Rust-Oleum. Then I sun baked it outside at 88°.
Worth it to me. Perhaps not for others.

A new switch is $24.95 to $ 27.99. They look like good reproductions. I spent 4 days rebuilding this one. It was a very satisfying project and seems to work well.Worth it to me. Perhaps not for others.

Aww poop, now you have me wanting (more) to work on the '45 Flat Head amidst all my other pressing projects.
Just pressed the button on the '45 and away it went. 25 years ago...
