The old forums are a gold mine of information.

I really needed a good laugh! Thank you all. Especially the link to the old forum. I especially liked the contractors near the end of that thread.

This one is picked from a FB site for operators of gas stations, and is for those who travel the road a lot.
A little gross, but then again, who hasn't seen this guys work ?

My friend Bill, who is a mechanic and has to deal with this, says cleaning the restrooms is his most hated
part of the job and has us falling on the floor laughing at the stories he tells of the animals that trash his
toilet facilities.

"Autocorrect isn't always write" .....

When Garrison Keillor (sic?) brought his leftist polictics into Prairie Home Companion, the
show took a header right into the rocks, trashing one of the best things on radio in the last
50 years. Adding to the stupid, he handed the show over to someone with no connection to
the show's Minnesota/self-effacing humor roots, and it only got worse. But one bright spot
of actual humor, just for the sake of being funny, was the cast performing as the "Autocorrect
Theatre Players. They took Shakespear and other classic theatre, ran the scripts through
autocorrect (which botched it badly), and did the play as autocorrect fed it back to them !

For anyone terminally frustrated/amused by autocorrect's ability to make nonsense out of
your texts and typing, this was some seriously funny stuff. Not sure if PHC is still being made.
In my market, even the NPR crowd could not stomach the loss of folksy music and humor for
the politics and new-age tunes, and the show was dropped from the programming. But at least
that part was pretty darned funny, while it lasted.

You are welcome anytime, Jim. Call ahead, so I don't go off doing something else !
More people are doing it today than ever before !

The Sheriff cartoon above reminds me of Marine Corps humor and a story the
Sergeant Major told of being called in the middle of the night by the local Constable
to come un*uck a problem they had with one of his Marines.

Seems a few Marines and their wives/girlfriends had gone out to a restaurant/
bar together and a local tough guy felt an unshakable need to see just how tough
these Marines were. Described by the Constable as a "large, football type", the
local tough could not get much of a rise out of the disciplined Marines until he took
a swipe at one of the wives. Although repeatedly directed to lay off and not start
trouble, the tough insisted on a show of force and in classic USMC understated
commentary, the SgtM said that his rather small 5'7"/160lb. Marine was handed
over to him with a few scuffs. The local tough was at the hospital, having come up
light one ear and the end of his nose.

Telling the Constable that he would mete out appropriate discipline upon learning
all the facts of the incident, he later congratulated his Marine for outstanding use of
restraint and dealing with the problem in a clean and decisive manner that set an
excellent example for all present.

Has anyone here besides myself been blessed by the singular opportunity of seeing a "skunk spray" rainbow ?!? I could not believe the colors and their incredible intensity ! :o (that's not all that was intense)
===========================================

Skunks are wonderful little critters with a few systems that run contrary to
close cohabitation. They can be a real problem with the chickens, and my dogs
are too stupid to ever remember that the black cat with the white stripe leads
to lots of problems, and further prove Murphy's Law in always tangling with the
"stinky rabbit" late on a night before a work day, cutting deeply into the needed
sleep of the guy who pays the bills around here. As a result, a few skunks have
met an unfortunate end, when they don't take the hint to move along.

Mom worked at the zoo in Seattle in the late 60's and 70's. As kids, we got to
get in to places the public could not go, and interface with the critters with the
various zookeepers. The zoo had an educational outreach program, where staff
took critters out to schools and did a presentation. These were tamed wild things
like raccoons, skunks, and other beasts that got dumped on the zoo, and for whatever
reasons, could not be returned to the wild. Most times, these critters had a place
to live and people to look after them, but on occasion, their caretakers took a
vacation or had some other reason, and alternative lodging was found with other
staff. Many times we had raccoons and skunks for a weekend, and while the raccoons
were fun, they were HEAVY and more inclined to misbehave, the skunks liked to be
around people, and I could take them just about anywhere I went. On my paper
route, mowing lawns, ... they were happy just to tag along. They often freaked
people out, but that was half the fun. I would tuck them in my coat or just let
them trot along with me like a dog. They liked to share food and were just great
little companions.

It reminds me of the two skunks that went to church and sat in their own pew. They didn't have a scent for the collection plate.
When did I do that?

While we're still on the subject of skunks, I beg your kind indulgence to elaborate on my post about the skunk-spray rainbow. No, Dallas, no special "grasses" were involved. My life has been full enough of variety and amazing experiences without need for any drug-induced enhancement.

Back-story: a fixture in our barn-yard since long before we bought the place back in '77 is a retired Oregon Short-line RR boxcar, which has served well as a granary and all-purpose storage shed. Countless generations of skunks have lived, thrived, raised their families under it, and continue to do so. The skunks work the night-shift and keep regular hours, and that mostly keeps us from crossing paths. They are acquainted with our dogs, both parties understand and respect one another. In the main, we all live in peaceful co-existence and without incident. Exceptions have occurred of course, usually in late fall and early spring, when the skunk community re-organizes their society, trading territories and establishing new patterns as young skunks come of age.

When Hannah, our youngest Border Collie turned one year of age, her curiosity about skunks was rebuffed in the usual manner. That education was sufficient to convince her to be wary and respectful of them, any similarities of "dress" notwithstanding. One morning in the early spring of her second year, as per our custom, Hannah and I rose before daylight to do chores. We finished up just as the sun began peeking over the east hills and were heading back to the house when Hannah spied an unfamiliar animal form in the shadows near the box-car. As this was not a normally scheduled time for our friends under the box-car to be about, I could well understand her confusion. She ran to challenge the interloper, almost immediately recognizing the beastie for what he was. About thirty feet from him, she did a sliding stop that would do credit to a champion reining horse, then like a character in a Bugs Bunny cartoon began pedalling in reverse fast as her legs could move.

Too late, the threatened skunk-child had let go his burst of chemical protection in a fine spray that caught the rays of the rising sun, producing an incredible rainbow. The usual spectrum was tinted with the deep yellow of eau de skunk and produced the most astonishingly brilliant colors one never sees in a "normal" rainbow. Deep magentas, intense reds, vivid orange, flourescent yellow and intense shades of emerald green were displayed for a short moment before my wondering eyes. Possibly one of the most beautiful sights Mother Nature has ever gifted me !

Alas, in spite of her heroic halt, both Hannah and I were too close to ground zero. A light morning breeze had carried the skunk's spray far enough to render both of us redolent with "skunk". It was OK though. We've endured sufficient encounters to learn which skunk remedies work best, and always have some on hand. So, after an initial treatment of "Skunk-Off" followed by a liberal scrubbing with "Cowboy Magic Shampoo" (good for your horse, your dog, and you too!) I felt we had come out of our encounter with Mr. Skunk quite nicely. I couldn't smell a thing after our bath. Then we went to town . . .

If you don't mind? Can we get back to the skunks? Much more appetizing than some of those new "man styles"?????

Skunks are among our many critter neighbors, and I do see them fairly often.
I stepped out onto our deck to get this photo a few years ago.
