Another White for Rich Eagle
No dates or details were given, other than this is "CC" Boswell, and his trusty White, stage driver from Grangeville to New Meadows (Idaho) for a number of years. The beast regularly negotiated Whitebird Pass. What power !

Rich,
I dunno much about Whitebird Pass, but the modern version of that road has about 7 miles of 7% grade. Yeah, that old White had power, but even more importantly it musta had some really good brakes!!

Whitebird pass. Driving lowboy grossing a couple hundred thousand pounds and looked down on single engine airplanes flying in the valley below.
Odd sensation.

Wow! What a treat to wake up to. The first photo looks like a 15-45 much like my Bus. I'm not familiar with Whitebird Pass but I did break a crankshaft in my Speedster just outside New Meadows in 1978. Those White's were certainly geared for climbing. We put over 10,000 miles on the Bus and had about 3000 passengers in and out of it since 1998 when we got it on the road.
Michael's photos show the earlier more bulbous radiator shell. I really like those. Fantastic photos and wonderful patina.
Herb's has acetylene lights and rims for rail use.
Thanks so much for thinking about me. It made my day.

Glad you liked it Rich. I thought it's an especially nice photo !Rich Eagle wrote: ↑Wed Dec 02, 2020 11:12 am. . .Michael's photos show the earlier more bulbous radiator shell . . .
When I first saw it I thought "Packard" ! I find it a little odd that the White radiator became more Packard-like with passing years rather than less. That "tombstone" shape was a Packard hallmark from 1904 on, and the company went to court (and won) several times against makers who dared to imitate the radiator shape !

Re: Another White for Rich Eagle
I tried to make my Bus look like the fine touring cars White made earlier. The brass radiator compliments it but the earlier style would have been nicer.
Dozens of European cars had similar shapes as White and Packard. Giving the front of the cars a pleasant look was important.
