Re: Meanwhile in Montana
I believe it is a Pope-Toledo. It might be as early as 1905.

I don't know if it's the same but it's very close ... The one Rich posted is missing the deer rack on the radiator !

Re: Meanwhile in Montana
Are those rear body panels made out of cast aluminum?

Re: Meanwhile in Montana
Herb, others may know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet the Pope Toledo coach work was wood. I recall reading that Pierce Arrow was remarkable for having cast aluminum body work, and I believe that was a bit later than '05.

Re: Meanwhile in Montana
Comparing the first and the last Photograph, the latter must be the earlier one, as in the first Photo both the Pope and the 'first nations people' seem to be stripped of all the fancy stuff
When in trouble, do not fear, blame the second engineer !

Re: Meanwhile in Montana
I agree that the body is probably made of wood. There were some great craftsmen that went from making the early horse drawn coaches to the auto trade. The Tulip and Rois des Belges bodies were magnificent. I couldn't find any good photos on the net of the wood.
Here is an ad. Interesting access to rear seat. It's a 1905 Pope Toledo Model 7. The blue car is a 1905 Pope-Toledo Type IV. and an engine in a 1904 model.

Re: Meanwhile in Montana
Wow. that is really something to see the Native American Indians in cars. Love the photos. As a child I spent a couple of years on an Indian reservation. The company Dad worked for was paving some highways in Arizona.
