living vs. existing

Post by Tom Hicks » Tue Apr 23, 2019 4:06 pm

I came out of the gym and a couple walked by my speedster. The guy pointed to it and told the girl, that's living, not just existing, but living.

I agree. A lot of the hum-drum things I have to do in life, like drive to the gym, are more fun if I drive a T. When you can make the hum drum enjoyable, you are living!

Millions exist daily driving the Prius to work everyday, mundaneness and monotonous lives...
Others have high tech gadgets, vehicles, games etc.
Living opposed to existing is one thing to one and something else to another. Doing what makes one happy varies from person to person.
Sounds like the gentleman wasn't fulfilling his dreams, for what ever reason.

Us T people, I believe appreciate simpler times and the things from the era. Not for everyone, but WE love it. Often the enjoyment we get is rubbed off on others, and it makes people think a little about what really matters. Slow down and look around a little !! Life doesn't have to be boring or cost a fortune to not be.
Life is unforgivingly short, we all have to make the best of our time.

Living as opposed to Existing comes down to
how you treat your fellow man or woman.

We are are all on the same Road headed to the same Destination.

If you are Helping others along the way - you are living a worthy Life.

You are a Human .... Being.

As I grow older - I avoid others who approach me with their hand out
seeking something to be put in it.

I am interested in others who extend their hand and ask “ what can I do for you ? “.

Pretty much everything I make - I give back in one form or another.

Duty and Honor.

Service beyond self.

It matters most when no one is watching.

Foundational stuff I learned from my friends in the Marine Corps.
More people are doing it today than ever before !

Driving a Model T is, to me, living as opposed to just driving a modern car. No top, no AC, no radio, no speedo, etc. It makes no sense on a certain level, so I cannot explain why I prefer it. There is something to be said for driving a vehicle which you basically understand the mechanics of and can usually fix, being it touch with it for constant lubrication and maintenance, and knowing which noises and vibrations are not a problem as opposed to which new ones could be serious. But, weather permitting, I really prefer a Model T and most of my driving within 20 miles of home is in a T weather permitting.

When it comes to my fellow man and T's, I feel a huge responsibility to always present a good image to the public. Courteous driving, talking with anyone, anywhere who has an interest, and suggesting that people and children get their pictures taken with and in the vehicle. We need to be good ambassadors for the hobby.

Some T owners seem to be cranky and gruff, part of their preferred image. I can't approve that, the public might assume all T owners are curmudgeonly.

Great thoughts guys.
Driving thru the big city and seeing so many people that obviously don't enjoy life the same way I do. Hopefully they have things that make their lives worth while too.
It was good to get back and drive the T and work in the shop.
Rich
When did I do that?

You are missing out. Driving n the city is a BLAST! Most streets in Richmond have a speed limit of 35 or below. Lots of nice people, lots of waves. Country driving is good for a break, but I much prefer the suburbs and city. Sometimes I drive just to drive, but most of my driving is daily driving where I would normally use a regular car. I am going somewhere for a reason. And, I prefer to drive a T!
