Old Boise Prison

The Old Idaho Penitentiary served from 1872 to 1973.

We were allowed to park our cars inside the grounds on a tour a dozen years ago. They also let us out with them.

Tours of the grounds were given as well as the Idaho Botanical Gardens where inmates had boxed and played baseball, basketball, handball, tennis, horseshoes and football. A softball team was named The Outlaws and frequently played teams from across the Treasure Valley.
When did I do that?

Something about these places. Very forbidding!
This is the old Wyoming pen at Rawlins, active from 1901-81. Nowadays correctional facilities (now there's a euphemism for ya) look more like a Motel 6

Very Cool Rich!

Thank you for posting these pictures. We have the Mansfield Reformatory about 25 miles south of me & it has that same look!

God bless
