If he was in Alberta I could point him in the right direction!

I wonder if he actually needs the pump. The common failure is a high pressure line that wears through where it lays on the left valve cover. There is also a wiring harness there that can wear through. My experience anyway

The mechanical fuel pump sits in the valley pan
between the fuel filter bowel & the turbo pedestal.

None of the mechanical pumps last longer than
a year - even though they are lifetime warranty.

There are shortcuts that don’t involve
removing the turbo pedestal - but I
have never changed mine & I don’t know
those shortcuts by heart.

The local economy is booming.
I have an appointment first thing Monday
at a diesel repair shop.

Two mobile diesel mechanics recommended
by Napa & O’Reilly’s might be able to replace
the mechanical fuel pump later today or tomorrow.

This is my fourth first generation 7.3 PSD.

When the mechanical fuel pump starts failing
there is diesel fuel that collects in the valley pan - the engine
will die at idle - fuel pressure will drop.

So - you have a day or so to change out the
pump before it fails & you have to call
the tow truck 🛻

My first PSD blew a high pressure steel fuel line
in Florida - if you have enough fuel in your
tank & the engine is running you can make
it to a repair shop but you lose a lot of diesel.

Boy howdy! Ain't that the truth! Odd how a national non profit let's this promotion go. Nothing against FJ. But if a post by Stan gets moved to Off topic because he's advertising someone needs to pull their heads out of their....... I'll let you finish my sentence.

My particular problem turned out to be a loose
IPR sensor on the back of the HPOP combined
with the mechanical lift pump in the valley pan
that was starting to fail.

I found a top notch mobile diesel mechanic
named Brett who spent a couple hours
doing repairs at The Saap Brothers Truck Stop
in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

If you are passing thru Cheyenne, Wyoming
and need mechanical repairs on your light
or heavy duty diesel truck or gas vehicle
he is the guy to call 👍
