FJ - ST 14 Ply Trailer Tire Tread Peeled Off ….
I can’t order tires off the Interweb and have
them shipped somewhere because I am on the road over 300 days a year and my schedule changes daily sometimes …
I lost a tire in Indio, California due to what
appears to be tread separation - the tire had
60% or better life left.
I stopped in Blythe, California at a Goodyear dealer and got two of these.
They were the only choice in stock but as it turns out they have good Interweb reviews.

You are not the only one! I see tire treads on the highways almost every day. Haven't seen so many since many years ago when they made retreads.

And there is this notice for other tires:
NHTSA Recall ID Number : 22T001
Synopsis : Vee Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd. (Vee Tyre) is recalling certain Tri-Ace Pioneer A/T III tires, sizes LT245/70R17 and LT235/85R16, with DOT codes 4718 through 1819. Due to a manufacturing issue, the sidewall may separate from the tire. As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 139, "New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles." Sidewall separation can lead to tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash. Vee Tyre will notify and reimburse owners the cost of the tires, along with any service fees. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 21, 2022. Owners may contact Vee Tyre customer service at 1-212-564-7575. Vee Tyre's numbers for this recall are 16MBCMJBL & 16MJEMHBL.

That looks like a “BLOW MAX”. They are famous for doing that at about 2to 3 K miles.

Now New Zealand is a long way from the US, but I had a fairly new tyre do the same thing as Jim. We don't know about any tyre recalls down here, but "made in China" is everywhere all the same.

If tire quality goes south any further it will be headed back up north on the other side.
Tires lay around on the shelf and dry out and rot before they are sold.

If you can't help em, don't hinder em'

You can check the manufacturer date on a tire
before you buy it.
The country of manufacturing is not a factor.
The tire lasted four months before the tread
separated.

Re: FJ - ST 14 Ply Trailer Tire Tread Peeled Off ….
FJ,
I have never owned a multi-axle trailer, so can't claim wide experience. But it seems like I have seen many more tire failures on multi axle trailers than on single axle trailers.
Now, is this simply because of the greater number of tires with multiple axles, or is there some adverse interaction going on between the tires ? I don't know, but suspect that you may have greater insight.
I had a friend who was experiencing rapid wear and other failures on his dual axle car trailer, even when the trailer was not loaded. He finally found that the two axles were not exactly parallel. Once the misalignment was fixed, his failures were drastically reduced. There is also the possibility of unequal load sharing, of course.
I have also wondered if, with triple axles, tire scrubbing from turning may be a significant problem.

I believe that side loading when turning sharp is a factor. Also, many trailers do a lot of sitting, which tires don't seem to like, but I doubt if FJ's trailer does much sitting.

I recently had my axles aligned.
On a trailer having more than one axle
the front tire can kick up debris into the second tire.
But if you have a tire blowout or flat on a single axle trailer
you can lose your trailer because there is no tire on that side.
And someone pointed out earlier I think it’s a
matter of poor quality in trailer tire manufacturing.

Re: FJ - ST 14 Ply Trailer Tire Tread Peeled Off ….
If that is a Tow Max they got the name BlowMax.
About 2 to 3 k is all they are good for. My wife used to work where they were warehoused. After I blew out a couple at that mileage I took them back. Got told “ we never have any return on these” That is cause there is nothing left to return!!!
Look up their history on RV forums.
I went to a 14 ply Salem made on Nam of all places.
Have not had any trouble since.

That is true too, even so, there is a correlation between failures/poor quality and certain countries....The country of manufacturing is not a factor.

Re: FJ - ST 14 Ply Trailer Tire Tread Peeled Off ….
for anyone unfamiliar with dating a tire. First find the DOT numbers. The one you’re looking for is like the one circled in yellow. The first 2 digits are the week of the year. The second 2 digits are the year. 46th week of 2019. Most newer tires are like this but some still remain a mystery.

Re: FJ - ST 14 Ply Trailer Tire Tread Peeled Off ….
This may be of interest
Tyres manufactured before 2000 – A three digit code was used, which stated the week of the decade it was manufactured. For example a code of 148 means the tyre was manufactured in the 14th week of the 8th year of the decade. This code assumed that a tyre would not be in service for more than a decade so you know that it was made in the 8th year of the decade, but it does not state which decade that was. So in our example the year may have been 1968 or 1978 or 1998 etc. A key point here is that it is recommended that a tyre should be replaced after 6 years no matter how much it has been used. So you are best to steer clear of buying tyres which were manufactured before then.
