I am considering buying a new 22/250 strictly to poke holes in paper.. Iv been reading a lot about barrel size and rate of twist versus weight of the bullet. The rifles Iv looked at within my budget mostly have a 22 inch barrel with a 1 in 12 twist rate. From what iv read any rifle with less than a 24 inch barrel needs a 1 in 12 twist rate with rounds of more than 40 grains for the greatest stability. I seen one rifle with a slower twist rate of 1 in 14 with a 22 inch barrel. Would this be better than the 1 in 12 twist. Or should I be considering a faster rate like maybe 1/10? I would like to use this rifle at the 200 yard range. What twist rate would be best used for 200 yards? At some point I would be reloading the rounds so I would want to match the rounds with the twist rate, bullet weight, powder type and barrel length. Should I not be quite so concerned about the rifle and be more concerned later when I match the rounds to the rifle? Thank you.

I have a Savage 22-250 `with 1 in 12 twist. I load a 50 grain nosler polimer tip for varmit. Its very stable to 400 yds. After that it starts to get a little wild. Wind doesnt seem to effect it much because its so fast.

I use 1 in 8 twist for my 243
1000 yd guns.

I recently bought a 17cal savage with the bull barrel. I set that accu trigger feather light. The only thing I dont like about it is its a bear to clean.I ended up buying a solid brass rod to drive the brush and wadding down the barrel. I'm waiting for the wind to calm down some here in Florida so I can get back on target. Im looking forward to trying the 17 on the 200 yard range when the winds settle down. I also have a savage 6.5 Creedmoor. The winds were gusting around 30mph and the Creedmoor put the rounds on target at 200 yards. There is a 400 yard range about an hour from me that will let me shoot bench and I want to stretch the creedmoors legs a little. We have a 600 yard range here but Im no longer able to shoot prone due to a neck problem so its bench from now on.

I have a Savage 17 and love it. I have killed ground hogs at 200. I shoot Hornaday red tips 32 grain. Only problem is it comes apart if you hit a blade of grass. I tried 40 gr but it doesnt shoot as good as 32 gr. That small bore is tight.

I am lucky to have a 1000 yd range a mile from me. The unlucky thing is since I got the T I havent taken time to shoot.

I take my T to the range very often. The guys love it when I show up in it. My gun cases stick up over the seats but I still go. of course the down side to that is I can stop anywhere with the guns in the T. I would love to try a 1000 yards once. I would have to use a better scope though. Right now mine is set for two dots elevation for 200.

I must be tired, the 32 and 40 gr v-max is for my 204 ruger. I have taken the T to the range and it gets lots of attension.
