Odd USA carby on a NZ engine. Identity?

Post by Duey_C » Sat Apr 06, 2019 11:50 pm

I was messin' around on The Stak website (smokstak.com) and ran across this NZ fellow who has a Treloar engine, 53rd built in NZ betwixt 1925-1929. https://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1562178
He shows that the carburetor for this New Zealand engine was made here in the states.
Can you fellas possibly ID this carb?
I think the engine super cool since the valve gear/rockers reminds me of the Minneapolis Moline Z tractor engine of 10+ years later.
What say you? Help? :)

Me too Mark and it all resurfaced a couple years ago so I bought a 6 horse Fairbanks Morse igniter Z engine lately to placate that desire again and loving it. I could finally afford the trivial $$ for it and always wanted one. It's still stuck and I can't get one carb bolt loose just so I can pull the head but it's good fun!
I'm so dumb (naive) I thought everyone who had a T also played with old tractors, machines and gas engines like myself.
Change all those parameters around too.
Surprise.
That engine of Merv's is so darned odd!
Ultra boring/utilitarian (British to me) features.
Those side rockers and valves really do it for me tho. :)
"Rain and sunshine, rain tomorrow." I gotta pick my tools up from a small project on a special tractor that's done. Rain & hail stopped.

?!? They don't ? :o most of the "old car nuts" of my acquaintance over years have also been into old tractors and/or stationary engines. If they don't own them, they've been more than a little interested.

Insert funky, gravely, questioning voice now: And how about you Rich? Hmmmm?.... Prey tell...
I AM kidding but it's great fun to jest. :)

Update!
Your input helped Merv get more info on that USA carb on his rare NZ engine. Perhaps only 20 of the 500 or so still around.
He's getting close as time permits him. IF interested. Me? Very much. Valves on the side. Have a MN built tractor engine here like that.
'cept this one has four cylinders and it's a Twin City.
OT for sure.
