It's just Fate !!

Maybe it was the times, "The Great Race", "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines" and "After the Fox" are three movies we saw that took a strong hold in my memories. After 50+ years, I see something of how they were put together, and note how they seem "dated" as tastes in entertainment have certainly changed (although not for the better in my opinion). They still amuse me, and I find them very enjoyable. There's a little Prof. Fate in all us T enthusiasts. 😊

As a 7 yr old kid, I met the great late Cole Palen. His museum put on an air show that had a ground skit that played out as airplanes flew. Villain vs. Good Guy stuff with damsel in distress. Was like watching one of those movies just mentioned in live time. Just as fantastic today as it was then. He was a great man.

Goll you guys. I have to find that movie to watch now! :)
Jack as you, professor. Rich, always the flair for the flair. Really neat pic!
Dare I joke like this? You didn't inhale that cigar...

Duey, that's not Rich E. (aka Kalamity Dick), but a schoolmate of ours who shared our love of antique cars and general insanity at the time. He did indeed affect a penchant for "rum-soaked crooks" for a short period, and did inhale, I fear - as we all did when in his company.

Professor, I'm simply going to have to ask my eldest Dot to take care of the 3 bucks so I can watch this movie on prime.
NOW I can see Mr Lemmon excelling in his roll! Even if on stage with a plugged in background.

I first saw this movie about 1969 at the impressionable age of 4. Back then, I thought Fate to be a very bad man that often is a failure, but with an extremely cool car.
Now 50 plus years later, Fate makes me smile and laugh. Some medicine we all can use more of lately.... "Fate is everywhere!"

I'm sure he stole it. The color was most likely chosen by the owner or the Warner Brothers.

"I can control my destiny, but not my fate."
Paulo Coelho
It would be fun to know where the blue Model F Ford came from as well as the other old cars used in the Film. We know the "Leslie Special" and the "Hannibal 8" were created at Warner Brothers. Hot Rod Magazine had a 4-page article about their construction at the time. Maggie's Stanley Steamer was a genuine car as well as a '05? Rambler and some others. Sad to think they would roll an antique, but it looks authentic to me.
GrtRcCrz.jpg
The studios had buildings full of cars and many movies used brass era cars in them throughout the years. They borrowed or rented others. The HCCA Gazette has had articles on a few and I'm sure there are stories elsewhere. It would be fun to know more. I seem to remember a big lot of '30s sedans for sale when the "Untouchables" series ended. gayburg.blogspot.com has talked about some but I haven't found too many other sites.
Here are a few movie car post I found:
Flubber:
http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/179374/203063.html
http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2015/09 ... inded.html
" Wettest County"
http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/17 ... 1297627195
And our comments on the "Reivers"
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=30627&p=235689&hil ... rs#p235689
Oh well, back to the fun.

It looked as if they went through a number of old cars making "Bonnie and Clyde". Of course, they weren't so very old then. "Movie cars" show up for sale from time to time.

I saw it several time when it came out. We have the tape and watched it dozens of times. We showed it at car club meetings and planed a day tour around it.
It's time they came out with one that good with a car theme.
So much fun.

It's one of the best examples of the height of movie entertainment. Wonderfully visual, well acted, light hearted comedy, and a superb musical score. We can hope for a renaissance, but if it comes, it will be much different.

From a historical perspective, in 1964 we were much closer to all the elements of that scenario, the cars, the dress, the gags, "suffragettes", et al, than we are now, and it's hard to think the movie itself is nearly 60 years old ! :o
