I had to buy a new safe. The old one was one I bought from an S&L that moved to a new location and this one had been used for the cashiers drawer storage. The hinges were so worn that I was having great difficulty closing the door. while cleaning out the safe there in the back corner in an old Yuban coffee can I found some of my old coins. I never did like coins in my pocket so anything I thought was interesting or rare I put in the Yuban Can. Anything else I just put in the Pickle jar to be wrapped and taken to the bank when it got full. The 5 coins off to the side are Steel 1943 Pennies, couldn't find any Copper ones. A few Wheat Cents, and a whole tribe of Indian Head pennies. Steve Jelf uses these Nickles as freeze plugs. The two nickles at the top are from 1898 and 1908 Various Silver Dollars, Half Dollars, Quarters and Dimes Probably not worth more than "melt value"

Enjoy them they are going back into the Yuban can into the new safe where they will probably sit for another 20 or 30 years.
It keeps puting the nickles in the wrong place????

Growing up in the '60's, these were pure treasure when they showed up and I loved finding them. Thanks for sharing.

I remember those steel pennies. One of my uncles gave one to each child who was there in 1943. A family get together. They only made them for one year. People got them confused for dimes.

If you do find a miss stamped copper 1943, you're in the money! There are some fakes out there, real copper 43's are very rare.

I remember real money.... coins with intrinsic value and paper currency redeemable for silver or gold.

While I am still culling all of the "Stuff" in my house I came across this.. I have no idea where it came from but the wheat cent in the middle is as old as I am.
