Just some carb eye candy
Matching or nearly matching set of Stromberg MB-1's, sold as original equipment on several overhead conversions in the mid to late 20's as they will bolt right to the head on several different models. Easy to adjust, trouble free and -- probably more important then than now -- easy to start. Some of the carbs in those days had terrible starting characteristics. These also have a separate idle circuit which a lot of carbs didn't, they relied on a compromise mixture for idle and high speed. The down side of these is they don't have an accelerating well like the OS-1 and 2, nor an economizer, but today the economizer isn't such a big deal and these run great without the well because of the long venturi and main jet design.
One of these was very nice, the other was a mess inside. Green/blue caked on dried something or other that didn't want to come off in the bead blaster and laughed at me for leaving it in the ultrasonic goop overnight. Scraped a lot of it out with a knife. Had to get nasty with it in the big blast cabinet. Finally got all the passages clean.
But it's rare for me to have two of the same model to do, thought you might like to see them before they go in a box and go to Minnesota tomorrow.

Re: Just some carb eye candy
I DELETED MY PREVIOUS RESPONSES TO THIS AND AM UNABLE TO DELETE THE ORIGINAL.
HOWEVER, LET ME BE CLEAR. I AM NOT SOLICITING BUSINESS.
I HAVE ACCEPTED VIRTUALLY NO, NO, NO REPAIR WORK SINCE MARCH 1ST, 2020.
I AM SELLING OFF SOME INVENTORY BUT AM NOT, NOT, NOT TAKING IN MORE REPAIR.
I AM NOT. NOT, NOT LOOKING FOR REPAIR BUSINESS.
I POSTED THIS AS INFORMATION.
The people wring their hands and gnash their teeth over the old guys getting out of the business and not passing their knowledge on.
I'm pushing 80. Take a guess.
I also have about the third largest collection of accessory carburetors for T's known to exist. I have several prototypes, never put into production and several that were basically a test batch to see if there was any sale for them. They will probably end up on pallets at my estate auction hopefully a few years down the road and be sold for brass scrap.
Don't expect to see them here.
I might also point out that Model T carburetors are about 10-15% of my business. I have customers in 17 countries around the world, nearly every state in the US including museums, major collections etc.
There are some amazing designs, some ingenious ideas, some beautiful craftsmanship and some exotic applications.
Don't expect to see those here either.

Thinking more about these matters. HOW ABOUT A STRING OF WEB POSTS called "STAN"S OLD CARB OF THE WEEK". You could take one carburetor from your collection each week, post a picture small discussion/summary and secure dialog from the interested club members. Everyone could learn from this and there would be no "solicitation".

Re: Just some carb eye candy
I don't have time.
Somebody would complain.Years ago I tried doing that. There was little interest and somebody who was always more than willing to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about.
I spent two months putting up with a guy who refused to accept my statement it is pressure differential, not vacuum in carburetor theory.
Posted scans of Australian high school textbooks to prove to me it was vacuum, etc. I finally gave up.
Same with posting tips showing methods of how to rebuild NHs . Which I actually don't do as part of the business.
Immediately some expert right in the middle telling me I don't know what I'm talking about.
Back to the shop.

Stan,
I wondered why you had posted this in the "Services Section" with no mention of doing the work for customers. They look Awesome!
You may want to ask the Mods to move this post to the "Parts For Sale" section where MANY more people will see it & know you are selling them or if you have already sold them, maybe the "General Section" just for viewing.
God Bless

Re: Just some carb eye candy
Mr Howe told me to leave this alone but it bothers me. This post was originally in the general forum. Great/fun/interesting post! He explains how they are T related! Forum police decided he was advertising and moved it here. I guess if someone asks a question on the general forum and someone else post's the link along with the price list it's okay! By the way these were never for sale. I'm the guy in Minnesota. I guess if the forum police want to lose the knowledge of a 80 year old super expert carb guy, good for them! Just had a thought! This really doesn't belong in services forum! How did it end up here?!Bills Auto Works wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 12:29 pmStan,

Re: Just some carb eye candy
They are in the mail, Mike, you should have them by the weekend. I'm finishing up another very interesting one today and hope to get it in the mail before another Doctor appointment at 2. Probably not going to happen. Anyway, it's a New Old Stock Kingston 5 Ball for a 1911 Velie. Only NOS 5 ball I've ever seen. Gorgeous. It had been dropped and suffered a little damage and needs a float from modern material but is a cool looking carb.
Watch your mail or I can send you the tracking if you want.

Re: Just some carb eye candy
No.
1. It is not for a Model T
2. It is not for sale
3. It is on its way to a customer in Florida who has been patiently waiting.
4. I don't have time to answer questions about it.
5. Thanks for asking.

Ditto.
I do wonder what happened to his tooling and carb collection.
