Does anybody have instructions to this tester. I would like a copy.

That's a nice item. I can't help you with instructions, but note that using that tester should only be done in a well-ventilated area, since batteries can emit hydrogen gas under some conditions, and hydrogen gas is highly flammable and explosive. Any work on or near a battery that could cause a spark could lead to trouble!

From the looks of it I suspect you just stick one probe on one terminal and the other one on the other terminal. Then read the meter. Looks like it has a bit of adjustability for various sizes of batteries. No doubt the squiggly things will produce quite a bit of heat so I'd be keeping my fingers clear! And as Pat said...beware of explosive fumes. This looks a bit dangerous to me.

Side note...I'm also guessing the big dark handled probe is for the positive terminal but of course it's a 50/50 shot!

It's for checking the condition of batteries and of charging systems. It is missing a probe..
The upper scale is for 12 volt and lower for 6 volt. There should be a button to push to put current through the resistance (the wavy material).
With engine off, connect the probes to the battery posts. Then push button. It will indicate the condition of the battery. If needle is backwards, reverse the probes.
To check charging system, start engine, connect probes but don't push button. The needle will indicate the condition of the charging system.

With the absence of a "button", it appears to load test only.Art M wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:43 amIt's for checking the condition of batteries and of charging systems. It is missing a probe..

However a simple, temporary bypass wire to connect around the resistor would give you the 2 missing functions of a non load battery voltage test & a running charging system check.

I missed seeing the"load nut " printing on the face of the meter. Instead of pushing a button, apparently a nut is turned to engage and disengage the load..

Such devices that do this sort of thing are still availsble. They don't have exposed heated elements.

Art, I have seen the new load testers, but I have a soft spot in my heart for old tools. The new ones are the same design, but have pretty colored cases around the load element. Most are made in China, "SO ARE THEY REALLY SAFER"

Thanks for the information.
