Splash Shields

Post by Campbell Tellman » Thu Nov 13, 2025 1:36 pm

Good Afternoon1
I am working on a '16 touring car. Frame off. I cannot find info on the reassembly. When I lifted the body off of the frame I found 1/4 inch rubber pads at the bolt sites. My main question is do the splash shields mount between the body and frame without the rubber pads?
Are the rubber pads on top of the frame or between the body and the splash shields?
Thanks,

Neater above or below. There were no pads used on T's. Someone may have added to level the body out so you might want to check the frame rails for sag. If you did want to add them, I would suggest on top of the running board aprons, so the body sits on them.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

It's really good to see someone calling splash shields by the proper name!

From Ford Parts Manuals - no reference to "splash shields" or 3 or 4 dip pans :o

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

While rubber washers at these points were not original, someone in the past probably installed rubber washers at each bolt hole to try and silence vibration noise wherever metal to metal contact occurs. The theory is sound but rubber washers would have a tendency to keep the fasteners from being tightened as much as necessary and eventually start to come loose. Not good.
