There was a comment on one of the other threads commenting favorably on Don Booth's use of authentic slot head screws. I quite agree.

A number of years ago I ordered a bunch of interior trim screws and dimpled washers (not a T). After hanging up the phone I realized that I hadn't verified that the screws were for sure slot head. So I called back, identified myself, and asked the question. They nice lady replied, "We...don't....sell....anything....but....slot.... head....screws." Needless to say, I never asked that question again.

Fortunately my local True Value hardware has two aisles devoted to inch and metric fasteners including many slotted screws. Every time I go there, I thank them for stocking the old stuff. They tell me I’m not the only one saying this.

In the rare cases where they don’t have what I need, there’s also Mc Master-Carr who often ship the same day.

You're very lucky to have a real hardware store. We used to have one, but people voted with their dollars to get rid of it in favor of the overpriced chain store that often sends me to the internet to find what I want.

Its good to know the owner of the harware store. He has went in the back more than once and emerged with what I needed from discontinued stock. He can also order anything I need without a shipping charge if I can wait till delivery day.

Over the course of my many years' work with early coils for the T and for horseless carriages, I have very often run into the need for obsolete screws, both head style and thread. Having runs of each thread is prohibitively costly, as they run the gamut from #4-48 to #10-56, so what I did was to have a run of old-style fillister head "blanks" made. The blanks have the correct obsolete style high, slotted head, but no thread, and are 1-1/2" long, so I can put whatever thread I need on them and cut them to length. I had them done because I had an immediate need for screws of two different threads for the 1907 Heinze coils used on the Ford Model R, and it was gut-wrenchingly expensive, but one run covers whatever #8 brass fillister head screws I need, and if anyone else needs some I can supply them. A run of #6 blanks is being contemplated now. If I win the lottery, anyway.

McMaster Carr has all sizes of slotted head screws in all threads. I will mention that Restoration supply is way more expensive than Mc Master so I have made them my go to supplier. Mc Master will sell individual pieces or by the box. They also have stainless, brass, and steel fasteners. Go on line and compare prices of McMasters and Restoration supply and you will be quite surprised at the price differences between the 2 suppliers.

A good thread (LOL). Is there a listing of the screws needed for a Model T? I guess they vary by year and body style, but it would be a great reference.

I do not remember where I got these from, probably a thread on here.
