question for those who have actually adjusted valves

For those who have adjusted valves in a T with adjustable lifters, have you found that the 10 degrees per turn of adjustment gets .001 adjustment to be true? I'm curious. I suppose only if the lifter is threaded 3/8x24 tpi ? Knowing that would make things a little quicker once you determine approximately how much gap you need to close up, wouldn't it?

I use the "3" wrench adjustable lifters … I will set the locking nut against the lifter body to effect a slight resistance when turning the adjustment screw … this eliminates or atleast reduces any movement when locking the adjustment … and yes , using the thread pitch like a micrometer is a good way to set the clearance ...BUT , as with any setting operation you must check and re-check your work … always an optimist ...Gene French

Just curious. Do youse guys with adjustable lifters set them hot ? I’d guess not since gap is specified for the stock non adjustable lifters. Prolly not that critical.

For 24 pitch, one turn = 0.0417", 1/36 of a turn 0.001157" so yes, 10 degrees of rotation is just over one thou, if that is still the question, best,jb
