New (to me) driveshaft rebuild parts

Rebuilding some rear axles and using after market design pinion bearings and stumbled onto a couple items at a local bearing supply house;
1.A clamp on 1” collar rather than the set screw design. I think it will be considerably easier to adjust and should hold good without any tack welding to the drive shaft

2.A package of various thickness 1” diameter steel shims. 19 pieces from.001” up 1/8”

Nice looking clamp on type. Those single set screw split style can't nearly clamp as hard as that 2 piece clamp.

Like!

As for tack weld, don't trust those as experienced the tack weld busting loose and the collar slid back, didn't do the weld. Don't know if the split collar was tightened prior to tack weld.

On last split collar install used Locktite sleeve retainer on the driveshaft, between the collar, and then tightened the set screw and it got Locktite bolt glue on it too :!:

Tack welding a shaft collar to a stressed part like a drive shaft is just plain bad engineering!
