Join or Renew

Having noticed that the forum today has 12 members viewing and 55 guests, this is a gentle reminder that it is easy and cheap to join. Do it on line, this is the link: https://www.mtfca.com/clubpages/joinamember.htm

$40 bucks a year includes the magazine and you can participate in the forum guilt free!!!

IMHO - If all that isn't worth three bucks and change a month you need a new hobby.

Guest just means they are not signed in and looking and not everyone signed in is a member of the club.

If you look at the list of threads, all posters, whose usernames are in bold black typeface are members. Those posters whose usernames are in non-bold blue typeface, are not members, but are registered users. This can be confirmed by clicking onto the posters username. Jim Patrick

I've been a member for probably somewhere around 40 years and my name has never shown up in bold type.

And I'm still thinking a lot of people who should be members are not.

All I'm doing is reminding people it is easy and cheap to join.

Support what you use.

$40 bucks a year to support a group that keeps not just our machines alive, but the knowledge to do so? How could that be a bad thing?

The Magazine - is icing on the cake.

Hey, if I can do it... YOU can do it. Your car depends on it.

We need a "like" button!! Susanne

60 years ago when I broke out roughnecking in the oil field at 17 one of the expressions those Okies and Texans brought with them was, "Make a hand or go to the house," which meant lift your share of the load, shovel your share of the mud, quit complaining about how cold and wet you were, work as many hours as it took to get the job done and buy your share of the whiskey when the job was over.

Fits a lot of situations.

Last fall, while visiting the museum, I took advantage of the special life time membership offer, if you are 65 or over, it was $400.00! Now all I have to do is live another ten years to get my money's worth! Hope it's not a problem!

I think when I joined in the 70's it was $15 a year. I was making a beginning school teacher's wages. Now membership is $40 a year and I don't know what a beginning school teacher makes but I'm probably not making that. I should have bought a lifetime membership then, probably wouldn't get the good out of it now.

Back to the shop. Working on a U & J! Trying to keep the wolf away from the door and the hobby going.

... and the Vintage Ford showed up in our mailbox, and, well... what can I say?? :D I probably wore them out as I did my Ford Service book... You know it's bad when your hih school locker had VF centerfolds taped inside... (oh yes I did...).

Neighbor of ours when I was still young was a borax and gold prospector east of the Mojave in the 20's and early 30's... his car was a T, he said one or 2 of his main or rod bearings at any given time were occasionally cut from his belt to get him out of a bad situation... Don't quite think you could do that in a Probe or a Kia... Of course, he's long gone now, I only wish I had recorded his musings of the "good old days" when our cars were the means to following your dreams, and earning a living.

That is the legacy of our cars, and what our club is trying to keep alive. And one of the reasons why I'm a member.

Using that as a measure for hanging a scarlet letter on people is not a good one. I'm a life member of both clubs yet have never been able to get that issue resolved with my forum account. It's not worth the time anyway -- too many more interesting things to do in the shop!

Stan and Mark,

I believe you have to go to your profile and put your MTFCA number in the correct field. Once that field is filled in your handle will show up in BOLD print. Many members did not have their number handy when they first signed up, so until they update it they will show up as plain print.

I put in my number and now I'm in bold print. I'd imagine this is a very common thing.

-Hey, Stan-
More guests than members??? Without logging in, I can pull up the discussion if it is of interest to me. The first and last 'post' will display by placing my cursor on the thread title. If the thread is something I'd like to comment or question. I will log in to do so. Might explain the differential in numbers? Call me lazy or whatever, but I don't feel like bothering with another 'step' of time if it's not necessary. Don't want to miss the possibility my Bride to be calling, you know... :D

StanHowe - Just a "thought" here, but to add a bit to what you said, I'm thinking that perhaps "guests" assume that they must OWN a Model T to be a member. Unless I missed it, I don't think that when a "guest" brings up the forum, there's anything obvious to them to indicate that merely an "interest" in the hobby is plenty good enough reason to join the club, and after all, the first thing we usually recommend to a "newby" is to join the nearest chapter of the club! Maybe there should be a little short brief notice at the top of the forum that,...."you need not own a Model T Ford to join the club"! Again,....just a thought,.....harold

I agree with Stan. It costs money to run the Forum and the MTFCA and the administrators rely on our membership dues to keep the lights on. For years I participated on the Forum for free, without a peep from the administrators until my conscience got the better of me and I sent in my dues and became a dues paying member. $40.00 is not a lot to pay for a year’s membership and the fact that it goes for such a good purpose makes it a worthy investment. No one will say anything, or condemn you if you choose not to join. It is your choice alone, for it is your love of the Model T that causes us to embrace eachother in brothership and sistership on the Forum and we need your participation and input whether you are a member or registered user. That is why the MTFCA Forum is one that is the envy of all other hobby clubs. Let’s all stick together and make it better than ever. Thank you. Semper Fi (“Always Faithful”), Jim Patrick

Stan, I'm glad that you started this thread. There probably many members who just didn't put their membership number in when they signed in for the Forum and so now they don't show up with bold letters.

Nice looking R.Eagle on the cover.
The magazine alone is worth the $40. Plus you get free admission to the museum and other perks. ;)

Great job, Stan. Very valuable thread you started here. Bold black names certainly stand out more when searching for names of particular posters and all it takes is for one to post his or her membership number to get there. Jim Patrick

I just looked and it does state simply, after touching the Join or Renew button on the front page "All persons interested..." :)
It's funny, every due I have in a club is due in the same month...
I do feel proud to be a member, yet will never look down on someone that can't or chooses not to join.
Heck, I ain't much of a member most times...
Ya, a LIKE button could be handy but would I have typed this out if I just hit the button instead? I dunno.
:)

I will agree that for the several reasons already stated it's good to be a member.

I will also give fair warning that when I assume my rightful position as Emperor of the World I will issue a decree making it possible to find members by their real names, not their bogus user names I don't know.
:)

I belong to both clubs. Michigan is a MTFCI state but with joint membership I can also participate in tours and activities hosted by the MTFCA - also, as others have stated, it allows me to use this forum guilt free...

Many years ago there may have been a reason that the two groups split off but that was way before my time and that of most current members. We all share the same interests and both work to support the hobby so it's a natural fit (plus two good magazines!)

No. I was referring to trying to communicate with an individual on the forum. If I click on Members at the bottom of this page and then click Find a member, I'll be given an alphabetical list of user names. That's no problem if the user name is also the real name. But if Joe Blow's user name is Xerxes Flimsydribble there's no way I'll ever find him without scrolling through all 2900+ registered users. There should be a list of real names.

Age-appropriate joke. One day, Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin were talking. Roosevelt said, "Last night, I dreamed that I was president of the world." Churchill said, "That's odd. I also had a dream last night that I was prime minister of the world." Stalin looked at both of them and said, "How strange. I also had a dream last night and I don't remember appointing either of you gentlemen."

Agree with Stan,

I'm a Canadian member and cost me $50 per year and it make sense to keep the hobby alive! I learnt a lot the last few years on the forum. It is a good remember to be diligeant with others.

Dallas, it's like I used to tell the kids working for me. "Stick around and pay attention boys, pretty soon you'll be smarter than you were when you got here!" That was usually right after I told them "Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty!"

Interesting. If I type in Steve, Steve Jelf is the second Steve that comes up.

It appears that it searches by which Steve posted last. Since Steve posts almost every day, he comes up right away.

If you do not post very often, you will be at the bottom of the list unless we know your last name.

Have fun.

After looking into “searching for someone” I found that if I tap on your name on the post it will bring up your information. Scroll down this and you’ll also be able to send that person a message, it has some good info there.

After reading this I do want to renew my membership and will shortly but about using real names I'm just afraid that the US Marshalls will find me and I don't want them to know that I'm on Webster Road in Jefferson Ohio! OOPS! too late!... US Marshalls Pay no attention to this post!
I looked at changing my user name back to my name but it will not let me make the change easily and I do not want to start all over again. Besides everyone knows Perry Kete is AKA Denny Seth and if you want to see a picture of me just go to your local post office I'm on the wall.
