Please help me identify this part. This part was found with my father’s Model T parts. It appears to be an odometer, but I am fairly familiar with Model T parts and I have never seen one of these on a Model T. The inside reads “Speedo OCT 22 1896. I am assuming that the date is the patent date. It also has what appears to be a serial number, but I cannot read the numbers through the small hole. It has ¼” diameter compression fittings on the in and out holes. I have sent pictures to the Veeder-Root Company and they could not identify the part. I have also sent pictures to The Henry Ford Research Center. They could not identify the part either. They stated that the part did not appear in any of their trade catalogs. My grandfather also owned a Rider Lewis car. Could it be an odometer for that vehicle?

Seeing how it has compression fittings I am thinking it is a flow meter for liquid not odometer.

Veeder made counters. The connections look like they might be compression fittings so my guess it is a flow meter. Attached a picture of a modern flow meter and they are very similar in appearance.
