Is it advisable to insulate the capacitor before repotting tar?

No, not necessary. If the Cap somehow needed electrical insulation, so would all the bare wires inside the potted assembly. If the rationale is that the Cap needs thermal protection from the hot tar, that .004" layer of fiberglass tape isn't going to do much. In addition to the electrical characteristics of the new Capacitors, these are capable of functioning at high tempereature, not that they should be tested with overheated tar when assembled, but they will be fine after potting. jb

Like you, I too use wooden filler blocks to conserve tar.
