Spark plug thread
Hi all ;
Two day's ago I picked up an Model T engine with # 70784 .
I think that must be october 1911 .
But the cyl. head has 18 mm sparkplug thread .
Some time in the past I have read about that .
Do one of you can tell me why ???

Well, I do hope someone more familiar with this particular subsection of model T history can/will chime in here. If I recall correctly, the 18mm spark plug thread was unique to either English or European model Ts. Hence in Netherlands.I do not recall for how many years. Looks like a fantastic engine to get!

Very interesting engine. Would you mind posting pictures of the other side and from the rear/front please?
It is intriguing to play "spot the detail differences" between a European built engine and Canadian ones we have in New Zealand.
So far:
hot air pipe,
valve chest covers,
wing nuts fasteners on covers,
oil filler cap,
front casting detail around oil filler,
engine number placement,

Those are all characteristics of a late 1911 engine. Including the seven rivet pan (which should have a small reinforcement on the bottom by the fourth main) and the bottom inspection covert will have an embossed outer edge. The hot air pipe is the style used from about 1913-1915. The 1911 hot air pipe would have been cast iron.
Toon, is there a date (month and day) numbers by the center head bolt?

Keith - I was under the impression that the "heavily crimped" pipe was '12 and the other "not so" were the '13 - '15 style.

Good find! It looks like a whole maintained 1911 engine with service updates, like the later fan assembly. Neat that it still has a dogleg intake and wing nuts. Does the exhaust manifold have "T511" on the center-inside facing the head and, if so, is it prominent or smaller and harder to read?
