Timken Pinion Bearing Kit

I am trying to install a Timken tapered bearing kit on my '27. When I install the housing against the left side differential housing, the face of the bearing housing has very little contact with the differential housing. There is a counter-bore on the new bearing that takes away much of the surface. I have a question out to Mac's, but have not heard back yet. Do I have the right part? Is there something that fills that space? One picture is the old bearing housing, and the other is the new one up against the differential half. Thanks.

In the first photo you are showing the early stye housing that was used up to about 1920, there was a recess machined in the face of the rear end housings for the lip on the pinion housing to fit into. The second photo is the correct style for 26/27. Ether the wrong year was ordered or wrong one shipped. Send it back and get the right one for your year.

You need a spool that looks like the 1 you took off. Don't go by the year of the car. If I remember correctly your old 1 is 1921-27.

The 2 folks above me were typing faster.
Is the drive shaft spool (bearing housing) in your first photo an earlier closed spool? It looks as though you are trying to replace the more "modern" (1920-1927) driveshaft spool with the earlier style. I know that the later style will work on an earlier axle housing but I don't think the earlier style will fit on the later style axle housings.

Thanks. I was afraid of that. Mine is a '27.
I checked the order acknowledgement and I ordered the later kit, but I apparently got one for the earlier models.

Won’t fit. A lot of T parts will interchange but not this one.

Looks like they sent you the wrong one, but the one they sent you has a higher core value...

If you are short on funds or cannot get it exchanged, it can be made to fit simply by machining off the lip on the spool. This is a one way fix though, and vandalised an original part. I'm sure it was done back in the days to get a fix done.
