Johns Manville speedo

This is my John Mansville speedometer head that I plan to put on my 1915. Is there something missing here or has someone modified something? Other images I have seen on the interweb show a protrusion coming down from the bottom.

While we are waiting for the right answer let me share this photo. I think the middle one in this photo is the same as yours. It has no hole as yours does. Neither does the one at left. Also a JM. The "StanDard" at right has a spring loaded ball oil port. Could JM have made some with that?

Keith: As you can see from your own pictures, your speedometer is missing the shaft. I would take the two best examples you have and ship them to Russ for repair. If you need to see a nice looking example, there is one on ebay for $400 that has been on it for weeks.
