Finally getting back to my Ruckstell

Been a long time since I took it apart, rough times this winter, but back at it !
Took the u-joint off and slid the shaft out, cut the pinion sleeve off and ready for the modern bearings.
Basically ready for the gear to finish up the driveshaft assembly.
Time for some cleanup and see if I have some brake linings.

Good to hear you have time for therapy. Driving season is almost here. Nice photos also. Keep us posted.

Thanks Dallas.
I have another 13 tooth gear coming...
I gave the shifter to my buddy Mike to bore out the lower hole for a bushing at the shaft. Lots of slop there. Got the gobs of grease wiped out around the u-joint area.

The new gear arrived (thanks Dennis!).
I was not happy with the fit on the old driveshaft, it rocked a lot on the taper, so I scavenged another and cleaned it up. Much better fit !

The old gear was loose and wore the old shaft.
Hey grandpa, what’s for supper ??
Looks kinda crunchy...had this toaster oven I was gonna pitch, and per some pro advice, I warmed up the new gear to 450 degrees before mating it to the shaft. Modern spool bearing is set with a slight preload...
All ready to setup the housing and move forward.

The whole garage smells like toast now, I’m hungry !

Got it all together today, except for a few minor things. Hopefully it will be warm enough tomorrow to wipe it down and shoot some paint on it.
Looks like rain for at least a week after that !
I turn the driveshaft and the axle shaft turns...I’m taking that as a good sign.

Dave, I can just make out what your wonderful wife must have been saying:
"OOOH, Honey, it is way to cold for you out in that shop. Why don't you come in to the dining room and work on the dining table, that way I won't be lonely!"

- Nice workbench!

Terry, we found a nice pedestal table at a yard sale and this one was retired to my garage card table. I at least put some cardboard down and it lined up with the Workmate.
