26-27 license plate clamps

Post by GG Gregory » Fri Mar 20, 2020 3:44 pm

Are the 26-27 license plate clamps that mount to the headlight bar the same as for a Model A ? I have a set for a Model A but the holes in the original 1927 Tennessee plate are set lower and I can’t attach it.

The placement of the holes on the plate should not be a problem. The correct way to place the brackets is to put the bolt to the top of the bar and bolt the plate on the front, not between the clamps. So it should work fine if you place it this way.

Thanks Norman I’m sure that would probably work but I’d rather Mount the plate the way it should be if possible.

Have found the reproduction A clamps to be satisfactory.

Here is Ford #15 millon with Ford accessory license clamps, note how they hang.

On this accessory bar, the clamps hang, and the bolt goes thru the license slot, period plate.

Or, if you found old aftermarket versions, they hang from the bar too. Plate below hanger.

And another old photo of period placement.

Ahh, I see Dan! Thank you. I just assumed they should actually hang through the clamp itself like my 1930 Model A, guess not.
