Dipping Bands

I just got a set of new Wearever kevlar band linings. They are nice and thick, as always. I have heard that some other brands of new ones are thinner. These will need to have their ends dipped to keep them from fraying. What should I dip them in?

Mike, there was some out there a few months ago that where thinner, most got sent back, but Frank Iocinio has the good ones out there, I think it is Red Hook restoration, web page. Hop this helps!

Any bands that are being shipped in any condition that is not ready to install “as is” should be returned for a refund!

Or at least come with an obvious warning that further work was needed and priced accordingly...which admittedly is a less than ideal product for the average guy or gal.

Personally, my next set of bands will be done with the Dykes/Kohnke method and will need to be both shortened AND dipped/sealed so it would matter not, to me.

Mike, any of the bands supplied by Rocky Mountain Machine CO will come sealed. I know some of the other suppliers don't seal them. Like RV said, supper glue works fine.

Well, I bought some super glue and started to seal the ends when I realized that they are already sealed. Should have looked closer to start with. Anyway, I added some more glue since I had it. They’re sealed up for sure now. 😀

Mike

SO glad to hear this follow-up from you. I was frankly shocked to hear the claim on Wearever bands and didn't intend to pursue it without seeing it with my own eyes. Thank you for clearing this up for the company as well as their customers. Kind of surprised they didn't jump in with this info themselves, but you have provided the info. Good for you.
